I hope the Oilers get the 5th overall pick and everyone cheering for us to get McDavid poops their pants.
That's my oilers confession. |

You're right, he probably does deserve a little more time. I was merely wondering if Oilers fans were getting itchy trigger fingers yet.
I mean the team has seemingly gotten worse since he took over, so it's not like it's out of the realm of possiblity fans would be quick to call for his head, especially after so many years of slightly less mediocrity before him with Tambellini at the healm. - MnGump
Better players playing worse. Tough to say whether that's because
A) MacT has made some non-helpful moves
B) MacT hasn't done enough
C) coaching is bad
D) Players are in a funk
It's say it's probably all at once, with each more likely than the last. |

I would say we need a culture change. We needed one before and we got rid of the hardworking "problem" players like Moreau, Souray and Horcoff but we never filled that void with anybody. |

We've been doing a lot of that.
I'm fairly convinced that it never would have gotten this bad culturally if our team was better on defense. No matter what anyone says about our talent level our D core sucks on paper and seems to be worse in practice.
I think we should trade one of Eberle and Yakupov and one of Marincin, Klefbom for a great Defenseman, and go after a middle centre in free agency |

It is so hard playing for a bad team. My team only won 1 game last year and it's miserable. Everyone blames everyone and secretly hates so and so and then you don't trust anybody to make a play so you try doing too much and it just gets cluster(frank)ed. |

yeah I've been on bad teams and good teams, and it's so easy for momentum to take over in both cases. |

We could sure use a leader on the backend. Someone who can eat 25mins and just really calm things down. I would also love to add Eric Staal up the middle too.

I pho is still bottom feeding at the td, I could see a yakupov + deal maybe getting it done.
be nice if yaks started putting a few home to show gm's that the potential is in fact there |

That little Russian bust better start scoring mega-points if he expects to be treated like a real person. |

If we can get Yandle without trading Eberle, I'm stoked.
Heck, I might trade them both!

If it makes this team better then I don't see why something would be off limits. I'm also sick of hearing about how it only makes us better short term, we've been sold the "future" for so long are we ok with always looking forward? |

Eberle + ____ <—> Anisimov + Tyutin
Yakupov + ____ <—> Yandle
Nikitin + ____ <—> A ticket out of town
Steep prices I know, and it's a set of moves that firmly thins out depth, but we go to having the worse top 4 in the league to an average or above average one. We have legitimate centre depth for the forseeable future and we're in just as good if not better cap shape.
Hall-Nuge-Perron
Pouliot-Anisimov-Purcell
Draisaitl-Arcobello-Pitlick
Hendricks-Gordon-Pinizotto
Yandle-Fayne
Tyutin-Petry
Ference-Schultz
Aulie
Notice that Marincin, Klefbom, etc and picks/prospects aren't present on this roster, and I'm aware they may need to go. |

I don't hate it. Haven't seen a lot of Tyutien before but I love Yandle. I would try to pry a few more pieces out of those deals but who knows what the market is?

I think to a certain extent hockey talk still falls victim to a fallacious view of fandom.
Just because being an Oilers fan might make a person biased about matters concerning the Oilers, doesn't mean that someone who isn't an Oilers fan is speaking from anywhere near the authority simply because they're immune to that bias.
There are
homers who know a ton about their team,
homers who know very little,
evenhanded fans who know a ton,
evenhanded fans who know very little,
fans of other teams who know a ton about your team,
fans of other teams who know very little,
knowledgeable trolls who love to hate your team,
stupid trolls who love to hate your team.
And most of the time, someone is skirting the boundaries of a few of these categories. I have very little time with the "well you're just blinded by your oilers fandom" routine if it's not backed up by a solid argument. And to this guys credit, he made some pretty good points in this thread. |

I wouldn't say he was way off base but the way he went about his statements have become a bit redundant lately. People from other fan bases telling Oilers fans what's wrong with our team and at the same time asking what we think about it all the while making bold statements such as we need to completely dismantle and start over. All I ask is if they could please think about if it was their team in the same situation would they not get tired of it? Would they still be sitting back saying tear it down again?
The fact is we stink we all know we stink but firing everyone and starting over isn't guaranteed to fix anything and we already have switched coaches, gm's, and scouting staff. Our current coach and gm have less than 2 Years on the job so isn't it fair to say give them at least another year before we talk drastic changes that will set us back another 5+ years? |

That's a good point.
If Lowe was fired, who would replace him? And if we got someone (Ray Shero?), wouldn't he almost certainly want to bring in his own guy for GM? and wouldn't that GM almost certainly want to bring in their own coach? And wouldn't that new coach make a pretty severe appraisal of guys he might not be familiar with?
So now, even firing Lowe means a new GM and a new coach, and likely a few major trades. That could be good or be bad. Who knows? |
