My dad was always a beacon of what a parent should be like. He was never a huge "rah rah" guy, but he did physically pull me out of a game once when I took a stupid cheap shot at a guy. Also, at a different tournament, a kid on a team (we weren't playing at the time) took a 2-handed swing at a kid's head when the refs weren;t looking. My dad started screaming at the coach (who was that kid's brother) to take him off the ice immediately to protect the kids, or he'd beat the poop out of the coach after the game for endangering the other players. The coach did reluctantly do it.
But, aside from those isolated cases, he always was a model of a sports parent and made sure the kids were never taken advantage of without meddling. - jmatchett383
I've had a few isolated incidents but overall I just sit and cheer the team colour.
Once a kid cross checked my son under the chin and knocked him out in middle school hockey and I kinda lost it. I made a spectacle of myself in the stands. We eventually ended up playing with the kid in Tier II and a nicer kid and parents you'll never meet.
In a tournament in Pittsburgh a player took a two-hander right across my son's neck as he drove down the boards. Ref was right there and ignored it. Again I went a little ballistic as they helped my son off the ice. I got ejected. At some point I yelled at the ref (who was a little over weight) that if I threw a twinkie on the ice he wouldn't miss that. No one has ever let me forget that one.
Two seasons ago we were blowing out the Delaware Ducks and their players started running around late in the game. Taking shots after the whistle. I was keeping score as they paraded to the box. with a minute to go our coach took a time out before a 5 on 3 to tell our players not to do anything stupid. We scored and the Ducks coach was incensed. After, when he signed the score sheet he went off on me about our coach then threw the pen at me. That didn't go over well. Our coach had to pull me off the ice. It continued 15 minutes later when he bumped past me in the atrium and called me an @$$hole.
That same year, we played a team from NJ and one of their fathers went after a players brother for flipping him off after we scored a goal. I ended up in the middle of that.
Other than that and a few other minor things I've done pretty good. |

He was actually on his best behavior. The line I quoted was because an oppoent's dad came down our end for the 1st & 3rd periods to watch his kid score. Annoying. - Flyskippy
You're only allowed to do that if your son's the goalie. |

I was at the game Friday and yea, $11 for a beer. Not only will I not purchase a single item at the Wells Fargo Center, I will gladly give Snider and Comcast the finger on my way out (tickets were given to me from my work). You won't see me spending money on that drab.
My boycott goes unnoticed of course because there are countless people who splurge down there. Call it cheap, IDGAF, but i'll be damned if I help support pay for disinterested players going through the motions. This reminds me of a clip in the Bronx Tale (different premise though because I am all in favor of watching sports, but not supporting the inflated concessions and ticket prices). Slightly off-topic here...my apologies.
- Fast_Eddie_1
There's a lot of piling on going on, no doubt. Expensive ticket prices, expensive food, drink and merchandise, and expensive parking. It just starts to be too much. I understand it's entertainment, but I'm not sure that excuses all of it, especially in cities where taxpayers are helping to fund the team in addition to supporting it as fans.
That being said, it's that way because we keep paying. Although I do think it's top-heavy and ultimately unsupportable in the long-run, but then again, that's our consumer-based economy in general.

I could fix this team with a few fairly realistic moves. I can already feel the butthurt when I lay it out. More to come. |

Me too. I'm already a step under this when my bother plays.
It also doesn't help that I know the refs by name because they did my games. Especially the bad ones |
