He wasn't.
Streit and Grossmann were awful all weekend. Schultz's carriage has clearly turned back into a pumpkin. Coburn was still in his Delorean, revisiting '12-13.
The only other guy who didn't look like complete poop was Luke Schenn, who had himself a good game on Sat, by his standards. - Tomahawk
Some days, you just have to laugh, man
I'm as big a fan of Coburn as they come, but if Del Zotto wasn't horrific on Saturday, then this makes no sense, because Del Zotto's been equal to or better than Coburn in every single game they've played |

Which means Schenn met the "you must be this tall to ride" requirements.
NICE!

You guys signed amac on april 15th I believe... so no one else could talk to him, hence no one else bid against you. - Isles_since_6
Why couldnt you guys have locked him up before hand |

We would like to be impressed by Berube benching high priced veterans who had bad games.
But then he also benches Bellemare and now, apparently Del Zotto, so we have to assume he's just doing it at random. - Feanor

Breaking News..
Craig Berube will continue to scratch a different forward/defender combo each game until the Flyers win.

I watched most of it and he didn't stand out as having a bad game.
I think they should just play 7 D and sit VdV. The guy is -7 in 115 pretty easy ES minutes, but Berube loves him for some reason. - Feanor
Nowadays, how the coaches decide who plays. |

I really have no clue as to why MDZ is being scratched.
Schultz has been pretty abysmal for the past 3 weeks.
Streit... ah forget it.

MacDonald, Streit, and Coburn all have good mobility. I don't like it either, but I understand it. - MJL
I dunno about Streit
He is the PP quarterback and good with the puck, but end to end skating, I think he is average
If they are taking out MDZ, Coburn and MacD really have to get some shots through to the net |

I just took a step back and realized just how depressing it is to read all the comments about how bad each and every player on the Flyers are. What have things come to in Flyerland?? |

Shultz has come back to earth.
I think Del Zotto has probably been one of the better defenders. He started slow but has been pretty reliable since then. All this speculation that Berube is an idiot for scratching him and maybe he is just sick or hurt. |

I get it -- Del Zotto's on a one-year, and he doesn't make much, and MacDonald's in the first year of a six-year deal. And everybody else except Schultz is on a multi-year contract
So, I'm not stupid. I get it. If that's how they want to play it, I get it
But it's unfortunate, because Del Zotto's been, at worst, their second-best defenseman this year. Maybe that makes him one of the tallest midgets, but the whole point of this thing has to be scratching players who can't play, not the players who have been performing

Looks like McGinn's playing basically the same role he had here. Healthy scratch, spot start on the top line. Still pleasantly surprised Hextall managed to grab a third rounder for him. It'll look even better if the Sharks continue to go in the wrong direction. - TobyFlenderson
Just think, with a bit of luck that 3rd round draft pick can get another Gostisbehere or Barrie or Henrique. We're quite a few years away from seeing the results but it'd still be great to see. |

No matter how good Del Zotto has been or can be it will be overshadowed because everyone around him is in quicksand. I know this sounds bold but even Shea Weber would struggle with this team right now. Just not as much. |

Because maybe you're saying, "We have Ghost and Hagg and Morin, and we're simply not interested in going long-term with Del Zotto. So we need to further evaluate the other players we have under contract beyond this year"
That's fine, if that's what they're doing. I understand that
If they are, though, hope they move Del Zotto soon for an asset who is a forward, selling high, because no way did he not prove that he's an NHL player, potentially a borderline Top 4, when he was eating all those minutes and the Flyers were actually winning hockey games |
