Yeah, let's not pretend he's not in the running for the Barry Ashbee right now. - Tomahawk
He isn't, because now the battle lines are drawn and hoops needed to be jumped through, because now that the coach has decided to scratch him, then of course it's the right call |

Streit would win it right now.

I get he has deficiencies on the defensive side of things
but they have no one outside of Streit capable of offense from the back end right now
he may have been signed as a last minute deal, but as far as puck skill/skating he is badly needed on this team imo - Marc D
Just because MDZ is a skilled, undersized puck mover doesn't make him a viable option at any given time. I dont care what we "need".

He is a much better skater, he's just slower. There's a huge difference.
Hartnell has absolutely no agility or balance what so ever. Everyones entitled to their opinion obviously, but I don't miss him in the slightest. As bad as Umberger has been, Hartnell wouldn't be doing much better on this team. We're just not very good. - mochoson
not sure I agree
Hartnell/Schenn/Simmonds was a viable line last year
I am sure Hartnell/Laughton/Simmonds would have been OK
Umberger is a pedestrian 4th liner who kills PKs in an OK fashion and nothing more
I am good with them moving the contract for the future, but they would have a better team right now if the trade did not happen |

Not playing worse then any other defenseman is, including Del Zotto.

you'd expect Umby and Matt Read to be next then because they both have been bad |

Avoid the rabbit hole, man -- over the course of this evening, we're going to be told that the player who has played the most minutes on the defense this year is now the worst player on the defense, because the coach who gave him all those minutes is the one who scratched him

It has everything to do with it, because both teams suck. Scott Hartnell might have helped the Flyers be in a playoff position, he might not have. But he's not here, he's there, and neither team is in the playoffs, so it's not as if Hartnell was the final piece to their puzzle, either - AllInForFlyers
What??? Tell me this is a joke.
Giroux and Hartnell have been line mates for years with pretty good chemistry. It's safe to say that we took from Giroux's offense. The Jackets position has nothing to do with the Flyers. We teaded a productive player, who's still productive on a bad team and traded him for expensive poop. |

Umberger would've been next in line right after Lecavalier, and both would've been before Bellemare, if I was making the call.

No, that would be other people who will do that. The rhetoric has been MacDonald is scratched, so those that don't like the player, say, see I told you he sucks. Now with Del Zotto scratched, those same people that like Del Zotto will say the coach is an idiot!
You haven't once read any statement coming from me, even remotely hinting at calling Del Zotto the worst player on the defense.

I guess it's just the talent he played with. Briere and Leino went on to great success and Hartnell's career went right in the poopter after that line was broken up. |

Every regular line he played on here for any length of time produced in a big way.
That's indisputable. |
