I'd spread the load. Give some to Giroux and some to Laughton, who has been a PK guy his whole life. - Jsaquella

I'd be more concerned about Read. He's not exactly young (28), so it's not exactly assured he'll be able to pull out of this tailspin and bounce completely back.
Coots will be fine. Patience will be rewarded eventually, even if he's always going to be inconsistent offensively like a Berglund, J Staal or Hanzal. At least the defense will always be there. - Tomahawk

Maybe they should replace Umberger with Emery. At least Razor will hit someone. |

Yeah, compared to Read, AMac, Vinny, Umberger, Rinaldo, the PK and the cap mess, Couturier isn't even on my worry radar. |

No, but do you really expect to not hear people gripe about it when in the past week we have seen three of his "big moves" scratched from the lineup?
Schenn, VLC, MacDonald.
One we traded a top line forward for.
One we paid like a top 6 forward.
One we signed longterm as a top 4 d-man.
People are gonna gripe. - jak521
People have been female doging and moaning about this for 2 months now.
But let's keep the flow going and just beat it to death some more. |

News flash: I hear that the Flyers have players that are making a lot of money tied up in long terms contracts that are playing horribly.

The only reason Couturier played a second in the AHL is the lockout.
In terms of his development, he's been non-linear, like a lot of young players. But he's always had good defense. That's been an issue, because he carries such a ridiculous load, it affects his mindset and approach.
Before making a trade, I think the Flyers need to split Couturier and Read, and stop relying so heavily on them for defense. I'd split them, and Giroux & Voracek up, and split the heavy defensive lifting that Couturier currently gets between him, Giroux and Laughton.
The reasons are two fold. First, it gives Couturier a lesser burden and more opportunity to build his confidence. I think that's his biggest issue right now. Second, we get to see how Laughton can handle a bigger defensive role. I know we're all busy fitting him for his halo, but he's yet to score and he's had fairly easy usage.
Splitting Giroux and Voracek can hopefully give them two lines capable of being dangerous. As much as they rely on that one line for offense, the need for secondary scoring is so bad they need to consider the split.
Even though it's the only thing working, the team isn't winning. It's like keeping a piece of poop car, because the stereo is awesome. - Jsaquella
i know is all 20/20 hindsight but does anyone have concerns that perhaps it would have been best to have Couturier go back to juniors for another year or two, play in the WJC and work on his offensive game? |

Well its now being compounded as their gripes (which have been brushed off by some) are now being perceived as a reality.
Homer is gone... kinda.
Its now time for some serious moves. First step should be to move these guys ASAP.
5th round pick for MacDonald? Sure.
Anything you can get for guys VLC and Umberger. MOVE ON.
Let Cousins, Straka, Leier, Alt, etc. get it and experience. |

Okay, once others GMs decide they're willing to give up assets of any kind for our terrible, overpaid, underperforming players, I'm sure we will move on. Any suggestions on how to do this is the next few days/weeks?
Edit: I'm all for calling up Alt, but think Straka, Leier, and Cousins will get manhandled if they jumped to the NHL right now. |

We are pretty much where we left off when he took over.
Took over when we were in the cellar, left us in the cellar.
Some pretty good finds, and moves. Some horrible deals and trades. Pretty much meh overall.

I don't think any team will be willing to take these contracts without the Flyers eating some. Umberger and Vinny especially. They are essentially worth less than nothing, if that is possible. I suppose it is and would make for an interesting philosophical discussion. |

So basically, he made some good moves early on, and made some bad ones late which led to him being replaced.
What a shocker. Good digging, super sleuth. |

That is exactly why people are complaining. We cant even undo his doings.
Only one way to find out about those three.. Let them get a chance. |

He made decent moves throughout, and terrible deals throughout.
It wasnt like he was some demigod that certain people make him out to be. He also wasnt the worst GM in the world.
People are gonna be female doging. Get used to it. We suck, and part of the reason is because we have cap issues because of certain bad contracts. |

I actually think bringing him up was fine. I think the Flyers have done a poor job of surrounding him with better talent and giving him an opportunity to score. He's played with Read and a revolving linemate at LW throughout his career. He's done this while having terrible zone starts, tough competition and little power play time. It's hard to score or focus on scoring when you're asked to do so much defensively at such a young age. |

Again, we have been complaining about this for the better part of 2 months. This is not new or newsworthy. This team has flaws and has money tied up long-term into players who are underperforming to a horrible level. Who here hasn't know that since day 1 of the season?
Well, if there's only one way to find out, then the best idea is to just throw them in there. May as well give them 25 minutes a night as well. That way, we can adequately judge them since they'll be given a great chance to succeed. |

The pyramids of Egypt, Stonehenge, are great mysteries of the world.
How RJ is still in this lineup...that has to rank right up there.
Wouldn't the 3rd line look better with Bellemare, Couturier, and Read ?
Bellemare skates!!!! He is a +1 while Zombie has a -10.
