I welcome that. If we get a Lindros return for McDavid, I predict we'll come out winners.

It is a shameful way to run a sports franchise. Not to be that conspiriacy guy but McDavid and the arena being built,... How else do you go into a season with that centre depth with a straight face?

wow.

I don't know why this surprises you? Most, if not all, NHL people (except in Edmonton) would agree centers are held in higher regard because it's a more difficult position to play and that's how teams should be assembled/built.

That's not to say Hall isn't any good, because he obviously is, but you don't build championship teams around wingers.

You can blame Eakins all you want, but let me ask you this: how many more games would this have won this year with the best available coach?

I say maybe 1 or 2.

- Jeropotato

As many as 5 more wins I say... Eakins cant configure d pairings to save his life...

Now that I got you on here......

1.Alex_oil can make intelligent comments, but zero tolerance should be had for his over usage of emoticons. Bans should occur swiftly.
2.whipper can hang out cuz he's pretty funny.
3. BigErnfor MVP can hang out long enough for 3 posts where we reply using his handle as a synonym for poop.
4. GardinerExpress, Jake24242 , Bieksa#3 and Whiskey Tango must be banned immideatly because they're stupid.
5. HandyJ can make an appearance, we don't need to battle him because he makes himself look stupid anyway, but by the end of the night he should be banned for a week.Ditto for Newmy .
6. Bad trade proposals should not be tolerated. Bangable offence.
7. Graphic Gifs of a sexual nature shall not be punished. If they are too offensive , a simple deletion will do.
8. Yzermanistheman and DDM-Coga should be treated as brothers, DTF69 is a goof and should not be welcomed.
9. If Vancity whines about how is being treated by any Oilers fan, he should be banned.
10. Bloated Mosquito should be given a 1 hr ban after every post. He's pretty funny, but less is more in his case.

Sound reasonable?

That's supposed to make getting a good deal done easier?

You're the GM charged with fixing a terrible team and hired because you're supposed to do a 180 on the GM who got fired for standing pat. That adds to the likelihood the Oilers get lowballed.

The only way out is to trade something that doesn't have a finalized value yet, but has an expected high value, and then pray it doesn't turn out that way, or go on a multi-game winning streak to get the wolves away from the door and make sure the wins don't go to the GM's head.

I'm not so sure it's that easy with this defense.
Schultz is a bit of a train wreck
Petry and Fayne are pretty steady
Ference just recently has got his poop together
Nikitin is just an anchor
Klef and MM are still pretty inconsistent
Aulie is only really good for big hits (Fistric 2.0)

I try not to deal in steadfast rules about who you build or don't build a championship team around. It seems to change every two or three years.

Let's just say I wouldn't put him a distant 4th behind those guys, and I wouldn't in general put the premium of lining up at centre as high as some do. Especially because none of the four players is especially good defensively, and only Johansen is actually a full time centre. Tarasenko and Hall are definitely wings, and Seguin has been a winger for the majority of his career.

Yeah, Bob said he asked NHL management teams and they voted Johansen 1st, not too far behind was Seguin, not too far behind him was Tarasenko. All three were voted ahead of Hall by "a large margin"

Yes, I'm aware of the argument. To a certain degree, I agree with it.

My point is that that will have absolutely no effect on the current situation which is that the Edmonton GM is being lowballed in trade proposals across the board. In fact, if our desperate team fires our GM for not being desperate enough and then hires a GM to fill his place, the lowballs would logically persist or worsen. No one's going to be bamboozled about the Oiler's situation just because Ray Shero takes over.

It might be the course of action, and maybe this GM hired in the spirit of desperation will make a desperate move that helps us out. But MacT or someone else, that's what's going to happen: a desperate move.

Things change pretty quickly. It's pretty undeniable at the moment that both are performing at a higher level than Hall right now. It's borderline unanswerable who's going to be best in the long run.

It's almost an impossible point to ever agree on. If we had Seguin or Johansen as our 1C does that make us better if that means we don't have Hall? Or would we be saying man we really need someone to play with them? If Dallas or Columbus were to move one of those guys to the wing does this automatically make them a worse team?

For the life of me MM has not fuct up nearly as much as the others... In ways for 5-7 dmen I wish we would have just kept Fistric or BBC as at least then we would have had someone to make going in front of our net painful...
Petry is decent when paired with MM and they should be our 3-4 dmen
Jultz - well we just don't have anyone that seems to play well when paired with I guess Fayne if anything...If I were to put pairings together I would go the route of:

Petry MM
Fayne Jultz/Klefbom
Nikitin Aulie/Klefbom

Leafs fans have been arguing this very same viewpoint with Seguin/Kessel for 5 years now to no avail.

Well MacT got as much for Bryzgalov as he did for Hemsky. Maybe that says more about the deadline market for goalies than it does the quality of GMs.

But really though: if they're offering MacT a deal the day he's fired, they're not going to be offering better deals the next day to the new guy. Especially since we're talking about a scenario where MacT is fired for not making enough moves.

Hemsky and Berra were both moved on deadline day... Mac-T isn't getting fired for not making moves, he's getting canned for failing to fill obvious roster holes.

it's obvious those holes need to be filled ASAP and he's not doing anything. So if he gets fired, how isn't that "getting fired for not making moves"?
