That would've been the steal of the last 10 years.

I forget the original offer when timid tambo was at the draft table- but I believe it was Hemsky and... picks or prospects... But would not give up Eberle...

For the life of me MM has not fuct up nearly as much as the others... In ways for 5-7 dmen I wish we would have just kept Fistric or BBC as at least then we would have had someone to make going in front of our net painful...
Petry is decent when paired with MM and they should be our 3-4 dmen
Jultz - well we just don't have anyone that seems to play well when paired with I guess Fayne if anything...If I were to put pairings together I would go the route of:

Petry MM
Fayne Jultz/Klefbom
Nikitin Aulie/Klefbom

- saskoil21

I love Marincin's game and think that it is worth sticking with him no matter the bumps in the road along the way and leaving him paired with Petry would be ideal. With that said everybody plays good with Petry. It's the other pairs that are hard to fix. It seems all through out our lineup we have a bunch of pieces that just don't fit. When I picture Eakins putting lineups together I think of a kid trying to jam Legos together that clearly don't go together.

I would take him if he was packaged with something good, or if we could send a lot of poopty short term cap their way.

I wish Katz would pull a Snyder and show some passion. When he called out the Flyers it was hilarious. He said that Giroux and Voracek are the only ones who can do anything.

True, but McDavid on his own won't help the organization. There are many changes needed. And say what you will but you know deep down Katz is praying for McDavid. So I guess the question is, where does the losing mentality start?

I disagree. We were winning games against the east, and steadily improving. Then somewhere along the way, things went south. It's just a theory, anyways.

Here's something, Mike Keenan once made a player stay out for a 7 minute shift because he stayed out for seconds longer than Keenan's limit. He made the players on the bench hold shut the gate so he couldn't get back in.

He went on to score on that seven minute shift, and never went over his time limit again.

Do you think Eakins would pull this, ever??

- nuckout

I'm going to totally agree with nucout on this. I will also throw in Andrew Ference to the mix in terms of lack of aggressive, accountable, intimidating leadership. Between Eakins and Ference, this team runs free as birds...they can do whatever they like. If these rookies had a captain that would literally blacken their eyes and a coach that would pull those "Keenan-esque" manipulative moves...this team would win A LOT more.

My guess...
Hall would totally thrive in that environment.
Yakupov would thrive
Eberle would pack it in, ask for a trade, regress, etc.
Schultz would demand a trade
Both goalies would excel
the fourth line would be even MORE motivated
and the others would benefit from the internal competition.

Now, the solid captain approach works for good...the Keenan coaching approach works for a year or two.

but I agree with nuckout, this team needs leadership (and those two guys are actually, literally, the leaders).

- whipper334

Exactly. I'm wondering where everyone gets the idea that once we have McDavid management would kick the moves into high gear.

Sure, it makes a ton of sense to trade Eberle/Yakupov/Perron for a defenseman you really need knowing you've got your centre situation sorted forever, but what about the Oilers moves in the last 5 years indicates that they'd have any interest in making such a move?

I don't know if the McDavid groupies have faced reality that if we draft McDavid, we're fairly likely to just run this roster next year:

Hall-Nuge-Eberle
Perron-McDavid-Yakupov
Pouliot-Draisaitl-Purcell
Hendricks-Gordon-Gazdic

Ference-Schultz
Klefbom-Fayne
Niktin-Aulie
Marincin

Scrivens
Bunz

Same. Old. Same. Old.

Start?? I am hopeful that's were it would start to end.... I think many believe with a player like Mcdavid either on the roster or to trade your coming out of it far better than where we are today... If there were teams willing to give up a top dman I think we are making that trade and would be a better team instantly... We don't have a Gio... we cant develop fwds so how exactly can we be expected to develop dmen... Our team is just sad all over... Our biggest challenge by position is top 2 dmen, 2C, and a goalie... but the top dman is the best place to start McDavid would get us either that 2 C for next year or that elite dman...

I feel like Scrivens especially is a gamer. He's hard on himself, and he doesn't back down from adversity.

I'd like to see him stick around for a year or two. Bring in a vet who's got the goods but needs to split the games 50-30 or so.

That line up looks really good but it's that culture that I have no idea will get fixed.

I wasn't posting that lineup to boast. McDavid I'm sure will be a great player but that defense is terrible. Goaltending isn't good either.

I'll be pissed if we pack it in the rest of the year and gun for McDavid. I'll be furious if they draft McDavid, call it a day, and don't address the putrid defensive situation right now.

Yeah I agree. The longer this goes the deeper the hole gets. I don't know how MacT makes a trade without losing. Maybe that's what it'll take though to wake that dressing room up.

Yeah, I also think Scrivens has it in him...he just needs more support and the right people around him to pull his best out of him.
