Three more points:
On Gagner: I hate to belabor it, but he's doing THE EXACT SAME statistically as Arcobello, who was purported to be a massive improvement. And on the subject of his backcheking, the criticisms of his effort were always overblown. That kid always hustled back into the oilers zone, he just never found his man. And just so we're clear, I'm not saying we should have definitely kept Gagner, or that we'd be considerably better off. But I am saying that the oilers have to stop acting like all the guys they chase out of town are addition by subtraction.
On Lowe: If Lowe is fired, the new guy who comes in likely replaces the GM, who replaces the coach, and the three new guys all replace the players they take two weeks to decide they don't like. Even if he does nothing day to day, it's still likely a pretty impactful decision. I personally would rather he re-sign and the position of whatever he does just remain vacant.
On team morale:
As I said in the other thread, My inclination is that they're defeatist because management is acting defeatist. These guys aren't dumb. They know that adding a big time defenseman would likely cost them the 2015 1st +. So when management doesn't do anything for 10 straight losses, they know it's because management doesn't want to risk trading away a lottery pick. If management doesn't have any confidence that this team could go on a run and get out of the basement, it's hard to generate momentum in the locker room.

There is no accountability with this team, no rewards for hard work either. How do we expect to have a hardworking, blue collar team when laziness isn't punished and effort isn't rewarded? - SpoiledByOil
Hard to have accountability as many pointed out last night- Upper management has hung Eakins out to dry by letting him field all the media and its continual circus of recyycled questions... |

So basically MacT knew we were basement hunters which is why he didnt get the dman or center at the beginning of the season or our scouting and managment are that slow??? |

Part of me feels like they don't expect to have a hardworking, blue collar team. They keep talking about Chicago as a model, but I think they only watched Chicago light up Lu a couple times in the playoffs because there aren't a ton of teams that survive playing a mostly razzle dazzle game.
We're actually more like a poor man's Washington with Hall, Nuge, Eberle, and Schultz cast hap-hazardly in the Ovie, Backstrom, Semin and Green roles |

I'm a fan of Mact but he has made some errors. He knows what we need. But can't get it. He said before the season that the team has improved but wasn't sure how much because the chasm was so wide. I think they are definitely better. But lacking the big difference maker. Hope he makes a move soon. That pick is worth a ton right now. May become worth more as the season goes on. |

I think they probably saw a window to trade the pick but they want the team to catch fire so they can sell the pick and the team wants management to sell the pick so they and their new impact teammate can catch fire. Everyone's looking somewhere else for answers...
I think they're also too cautious about trading picks because of the Seguin situation with Toronto. |

Ference was good in Calgary with the 04 run, great in Beantown but look at the cast of characters they (had). If it wasn't Ference, who would have or should have got the 'C'? Hall is as good as they get. Plays a great game. Ebs, RNH, Yak, all good players but leaders? Not sure... Its a tough market to get players to come to (as is Calgary, Winnipeg). Theres no easy solution, none. For buddy with the opinion that this is organizationally a full tank, you're a fk-tard. Change is coming or the Oilers TRULY don't give a rats ass about their fans... |
