Matt Henderson: Leadership? - Matt_Henderson
Someone mentioned this earlier, I wonder if Katz had this same lackadaisical attitiude towards his other business ventures? I guessing no.
So why turn a blind eye in this situation? |

I agree. And as I say, every time the team gets down he gets double-shifted, and I think it leads to him trying the 1 on 3 maneuvers that as Perron points out don't have a ton of success.
As much as everyone craps on the oilers' depth, if you look around at other teams in the league, having the ability to deploy Perron and Pouliot as 2nd and 3rd line options is actually pretty decent. Even if Hall is great, we can still use our depth effectively, and thus deploy him more effectively. - Morris
Good point. By relying on Hall so heavily to drive our offense we are driving it into his brain that he has to do it and he has to be the one to make something happen. If we could cultivate a more team driven offensive breakout (dump and chase) this could correct some of the errors being made currently. |

He already has what he wanted. He bought the Oilers and used them as his way in with city council to build his arena a.k.a buy up a huge chunk of downtown Edmonton. |

Has that new arena been approved yet? Is it publically funded? I don't know much about it. Thought there was some legal challenges... |

They just need to start using their depth better.
Put Perron-Arco-Purcell out for key moments. What's the worst that can happen? They get exposed and we lose the game? That's happening with Hall out there already getting spread thin. |

It's well on its way they already have the foundation in and not only that Katz now owns the intersection it's being built on. So for example they are having an event at the arena Katz can shut the intersection down any time he chooses. |

It's great to see Canuck fans showing how much they care about the Oilers
I also think it's great that Vancouver even has there own Joey Moss, can't wait for the inaugural Kassian Cup. |

Over playing him is shooting us in the foot already. I don't see why we brought in these vet wingers if we are unwilling to play them but we have no problem throwing Gazdic out there. Same goes with the defence why did we even bother signing Fayne. |

Thanks for the info. Katz is the big man in town. Good for him.
I'm sure Katz is counting on McDavid to fill that new arena up.
When is it sheduled for completion? |

So far it's on time and on budget so it should be open for the start of the 2016 season. |

Generally its too early in the process for a project to be considered over budget and off the construction schedule, in foundation work the biggest factors are weather (having to heat and hoard concrete pours) and soil stability.
What causes a project issues is structural steel, as they are notoriously delayed in their fabrication time. And if any of the piles or foundations are poured incorrectly, then that throws a huge wrench into the schedule for recoordination.
It will be over budget and delayed eventually, all projects of this magnitude are, that's why all budgets have at least a 5% contingency line item to deal with overages. |

I just drove past it the other day and it looks like most of the steel beams are already erected. It is actually amazing how fast this whole thing is being put together. And I should of said that as of last report they are even a little ahead of schedule. Now in saying that I know all construction projects will have delays even if it's as simple as building a house. All indications are that they are on top of this thing and seemingly unwilling to let anything stop them. |
