Hemsky is having a great season. - TheCalSen
he's obviously depressed about not being in Ottawa ..... |

what difference does it make when in his captaincy he was traded. it signals to me that the team realized that he wasn't the player they wanted to build around anymore, and instead of dragging it out for years and years, the moved on. nothing wrong with that. would you have preferred they held on to him, and then we run into situations like they had in tampa with st louis, or in new york with callahan, or the on going situation they've had in toronto with phaneuf or washington with ovechkin, or even worse, san jose and thornton.
sometimes the wrong guy gets made captain, there's nothign wrong with realizing your mistake, and moving on from it. - sensarmy_11
Yeah no big deal naming the wrong Captain of your NHL team, teams get this wrong all the time. (P.S. thanks for reinforcing my point that the management of this team has no real plan and sort of makes it up day by day) |

I just want to say you're completely wrong about this team's management. They are the bread butter and the only reason why Ottawa even has a team in the NHL. |

teams do in fact name the wrong guy captain all the time.....i gave you a few examples off the top of my head.
and frankly, what does naming captain have to do with management? it's primarily a coaches decision. also, who else were they gonna name captain? phillips....that would have gone over real well with the tire fire of a season he had. karlsson.....he was too young. neil......... .
yes, spezza was the wrong choice....in hindsight.....but he was also pretty much the only choice. in hindsight, they probably should have done what the habs did, but at the time, picking spezza was an easy choice.
it actually reflects well on management, imo, that they realized their mistake after only 1 year and fixed it.....instead of stubbornly sticking to their guns....cough cough phaneuf cough cough |

I think responsibility goes around quite aways around.
It's not just the GM, he's handcuffed to some extent by the budget
It's not just the coach, he's handcuffed to some extent by the lack of talent
It's not just the players, many of them are inexperienced and can't really be blamed for their lack of consistency at this stage of their careers.
It's not just the owner, he's been working to save costs at a point in the development of the club where it makes sense to save costs... We have spent money in the past on players for the sake of spending money, and it's netted us the likes of Kovalev and Gonchar, who - incidentally - are more the rule than the exception as far as UFA signings go.
If I had to, I would rank our GM as above average, our coach as around average, our skaters below average, and our owner as below average.
However, all of them have contributed positively and negatively to the current makeup of the team, and nobody asides from the goaltenders (imho) has earned the right to feel genuinely 'let down' in particular by other aspects of the organisation. |

Not even "sucks"... Just is mediocre. The organisation looks mediocre right now (pretty bad at present, with decent potential moving forward), and people are arguing that one aspect of the team "sucks" and is therefore responsible for most of the problems the organisation faces...
I'm saying there are a lot of parts of this organisation that are below average, or that have been responsible for our mediocrity to some extent, rather than just one aspect 'sucking.' |

Team will be better in second half.
I still expect Murray to do a huge trade.
I wonder who the Flyers move once Hextall decides he is all in for the McDavid sweeps? |

Giroux to Ottawa (E4)
Seriously though, a guy like Wayne Simmonds might be had a bit below cost this year, just a feeling... |

I expect a deal too. Murray likes to do one significant trade a year it seems. I have no idea what area he will attempt to address, but agree a deal will be made. |

Sounds about right. Extensions to this season not peak performance by BM though. |

so, thankful for jareds writing (even though i don't always agree with you), and thankful for all the other great sens writing out there. i think we have a strong group here. its engaging with the game, the team, the players, the organization as a whole, that makes this developing years not so bad, imo. i know that i get way more out of the games bc the discussions that i've had, the blogs and tweets that i've read, the people whom i have engaged with all contribute to my experience of watching the game. which i think is cool. talking about the sens- on and off the ice-- or just hockey in general make long seasons like this far more manageable.
there are lots of things wrong with the sens organization--- but i don't think that extends to the fans. we have a good group here. fickle, maybe-- but passion is better than indifference and arrogance, imo. - sen_smile
Congratulation for post of the week sir!
There's been a lot of anger and frustration on display here lately. A major part is residual frustration from last season no doubt. I mean, from expectations of great things to come (w/ healthy EK+JS and signing Ryan), to where we are right now.
But I've been really impressed by how some of you seem to have turned the page and kind of reevaluted things. It's always a good thing when you begin to see nuances in the most complex and important issues of life, like NHL hockey.
We're not a great team right now, but there's positive signs on the horizon. |

It all goes comes back to realistic expectations. Set expectations too high and you'll always become disappointed. I think this is what happened to about 60% of Sens fans. There was very little basis to think this team was ready to improve immediately with all of the young and developing players, who a large majority, are playing in their roles for the first time in their NHL careers. |

Am I the only one that thinks a Marc methot deal is going to happen shortly. If he was going to stay with the team, wouldn't Colin greening be in the minors or on another team by now? Seems like a lot of money to be paying a player to sit in the press box. |

My wish at 11:11 will be that Alfie comes out of retirement after warmups and plays the duration of his one-day contract |
