No reason, apart from having played a full 60 minutes just last night.
And I wouldn't have criticized Berube if Emery played poorly. I'd criticize the GM who signed him to be the backup instead of going after Greiss or Montoya. Hell, even Dubnyk is having a much better season as a backup than Emery. - Feanor
And all of those players would be having the same season if they played on the Flyers? As if every player is playing in the same exact situation, with the same team in front of them. Mason has not been overworked in my opinion. And I won't seconde guess the choice. I think going with Mason is the right call, win or lose. |

When the team I root for is spending $4.2mm more than any other team in salary for a 28th place team, yeah, I'm going to be critical.
When the coach makes decisions I disagree with, that are easily backed up by stats and the eye test, I'm going to criticize him. When the players can't perform basic hockey skills on a consistent basis, I'm going to criticize them.

I'm sure you also thought that the last time Mason started back to back games, a 6-4 loss to NJ.

Wait til they're down 2 in the 1st
Somewhere I picture Hinkie saying to Hextall: Yes my apprentice, all is unfolding as I have forseen it. Now insist that General Berube move Umberger to the first line and play Grossmann and Schenn together half of every game. |

The reason they lost that game was because they started Mason in back to back games? Or was it due to the multitude of blown defensive coverages in that game? If Emery had started, would they have won?
If all you had to do was look at stats to see who to play in net, or who to scratch, anybody could be an NHL head coach. |

I admire you because you only want the Flyers to give themselves what the math says is their best chance to win the hockey game -- math that is fairly simple to see
They're tied for second-to-last in the conference. You're not asking for them to acquire 20 new players. You're not saying that Steve Mason isn't the Flyers' best goalie.
The math shows that playing Mason back-to-back means that it is more likely that he will perform at a lower level than he would otherwise, and that the dropoff is such that it is more reasonable to play a backup goaltender. You would be giving yourself a better chance to win this particular game.
Not a foolproof chance. Nothing guaranteed. Just a better chance to win this particular game.
