The new magic number for re-upping middle-tier dmen seems to be ~$4M: Muzzin, Martinez, Brodie, Scandella, etc. |

I admire you because you only want the Flyers to give themselves what the math says is their best chance to win the hockey game -- math that is fairly simple to see
They're tied for second-to-last in the conference. You're not asking for them to acquire 20 new players. You're not saying that Steve Mason isn't the Flyers' best goalie.
The math shows that playing Mason back-to-back means that it is more likely that he will perform at a lower level than he would otherwise, and that the dropoff is such that it is more reasonable to play a backup goaltender. You would be giving yourself a better chance to win this particular game.
Not a foolproof chance. Nothing guaranteed. Just a better chance to win this particular game. - AllInForFlyers
The math he provided does not say that it's more likely that a goalie, Mason or any other goalie, will perform at a lower level. All it gives is team's records when playing the goalie in that situation. There could be a whole host of factors that lead to that. And none of that means that the Flyers have a better chance of winning the game with Emery in net then Mason. I personally think they have a better chance of winning the game with Mason then they do with Emery in net. Simply because Mason is a better goalie.

That math's already been done -- SVPCT down, GAA up. You're not talking to stupid people who don't understand the meaning of the word "factors"

This was similar to the story my friend who used to work for the Lightning told me about him coming to Philly/ It was when he worked for them, which was up to 2-3 years prior to this alleged trade. Same thing, ownership nixed the deal , but the equipment bag was packed.
Maybe we can use a time machine and trade the current one for the younger one.
Except there is that thing that messes up the timeline when the same person makes contact with another of themselves from a different point in time.

Well luckily it's not about understanding the meaning of the word factors. It is however about understanding the game of hockey. And how the team's play in front of the goalie that is in net, can affect a goalies SV% and affect how many goals are given up in a game. And who knows how many other factors that come into play. Besides just which goalie is in net.
Like in the example he gave when Mason was in net, for a back to back and they lost the game to NJ. Colossal defensive breakdowns were the cause of that loss. Not starting Mason in back to back games.

Actually he needs a visit from 7 of 9 or T'Pol
Just got my Ninja to chop ice for martinis. It is a world of difference using the chopped ice to cool the glass and put in the shaker, just like the bartender at the fancy bistros.
Even cheaper Vodkas taste better

Or it's just as simple as this:
Feanor and others think that starting Emery is the better option, based on the math.
You and other think that starting Mason is the better option, because you discount the math.
It's got nothing to do with your presumed enhanced understanding of the game that you chose the one you did. Because more often than not, if you choose that option, you're going to be wrong, which means you know jack-poop.
That's all the math says: If you choose that option, more often than not, the goalie playing the back-to-back will perform worse, and the team will lose. Whichever comes first isn't what the math is for.
