The big move is going to be a new coach. Do they wait and try to lure Babcock away from Detroit and the Leafs or do they pull the trigger sooner and hire Bylsma?
With all the moves they've made this season I can't believe a significant trade is coming to improve this team. Hextall's had 6 months to make moves to make this club better and he's done nothing but the opposite. One weak trade and patches. - mayorofangrytown

11 CF - 22 CA last night.
He's now has the worst possession stats of any defensemen on the team by a significant margin despite getting to play with Streit most of the time. And Streit has the best Corsi stats of any Flyers dman.

I don't want Grossmann to have the puck on his stick. I think we can all agree with that. He treats it like a buttered hand grenade. However I DO want Grossmann out there without it on his stick. He blocks shots (this implies good positioning), ties men up on the boards (and if a forward supports wins puck battles), he's slow as molasses but doesn't allow the same # of break aways that some of the other D do. If you want a real opinion of Grossmann go ask Mason. Hell even Bryz loved Grossmann!
Is he a flashy super skilled D-men, nope. But is he a serviceable stay at home? Sure. Are there better players? Yep. Is he the worst D we have? Depends on what you value.
I guess he's not my whipping boy of choice. |

While I truly hate your team, I saw the comments about trading Read; I always thought that kid was a real deal player. He always seems to cause us fits, is he regressing? |

He's tried that, a couple times, so hopefully Hexy keeps Ed's hands away from the red button and preaches smart moves and patience.
Of course, patience to someone in their 80's is a hard sell. - wolfhounds

If they Hire Bylsma, then its time to have Ed Snider committed to a nursing home for advanced Dimentia. |

He's definitely not useless.
But if the goal is to get better at ES, having him in the top-4 is nothing short of shooting yourself in the foot. Meanwhile, a guy who can provide top-4 level play is sitting in the pressbox, for no apparent reason. |

If they feel they have to do something - and they probably do - I could see it Berube getting the axe even though I don't feel he's the problem. Sure, he kept playing VLC and Umby, but to think there's no pressure to dress and give ice time to guys making millions of dollars is nuts. I don't doubt he had to extend them every opportunity to get their game back on track, but now it's to the point where it doesn't matter, so I wouldn't be surprised at all to see more and more scratches.

He's not going to make moves to make the team better short term at a longer term expense. He's come out and said this. He's preaching patience. I don't think he gave us any false impressions about what this team was going to look like this year. Last night the team looked like they haven't quit on their coach. |

If they could have he'd be long gone. His own agent hasn't been able to find a taker in 4 months. |

If Grossmann was on the third pairing getting 15 minutes a game it wouldn't bug me so much, but he's chained to Streit for some reason and the results are staggering.

The thing that frustrates me with Grossman (L Schenn also) are the loose pucks at the other teams blue line. He's backing up when you see the better teams D corp have the agility to be able to take off and win the race in order to keep the puck in their zone or just be able to tie it up until our forwards are back.
He doesn't do it, but now I'm supposed to be impressed when they get the puck and rush it into our zone so he can block a shot or pin his man to the glass. No I'm not impressed with it. - Just5
K - good to know what you value in your D. Yeah I can see why you hate Grossmann. If he tried that there'd be break aways on every one of his shifts. He's not fast enough to do that. So he usually doesn't. And tieing a man up on the board is his bread and butter. With just a little bit of support he stops the rush and sends us the other way. I think you need both kinds of D to be perfectly honest. |

I agree. Hextall's been very up front about what he's doing. All you have to do is read between the lines and this terrible record should come as no surprise to anyone paying attention. |

Does this include power play time? Streit is normally without Grossmann on the powerplay. Just curious. |
