It's the whole team. Every goal against is either dumb or lazy play, a stupid penalty or piss poor coverage.
The Grossmann pinch. Schenn blowing his coverage. MacDonald flipping the puck up and out when he had Giroux, open, 4 feet to his left, uncovered. - Jsaquella
But weren't we told that is a solid, quality group of Dmen?

You can't judge them right now, since the whole team is playing bad, or something. |

He needs to be doubleshifted and play at least 25 minutes a night. I want McDavid! - BiggE
I agree, even put him on the blueline for a few shifts a period.

You are right it does seem like it is more than one persons fault on every goal. That's one of the reason's I have accepted the " tank mode" there is so much work to be done by Hextall. Who knows how long it will take but a # 1 or 2 in the draft will be a great stepping stone.
I have admitted... " I am a tankaholic" - 3flyerkids
There is no way to avoid tanking with this lineup. Some people thought they were a bubble team, one guy went as far as to INSIST that they were a playoff team.
I thought this team was a bottom 10 club from day one. I mean, JFC, they lack top pair defensemen and don't even really have anyone good enough to anchor a 2nd pair. They don't have a legit 2nd line center or a real top line LW. They lack size and speed up front which is a recipe for disaster. And, to top it off, the coaching, while certainly not to blame for everything, has been plagued by questionable decisions in both lineups and ice time.
This is a bad team, and we shouldn't be surprised. Hextall came right out and said it. For those of you that don't speak GMese, "We may have to take a step back this year to take a step forward in the future" translates to "we are going to suck this year but until we can draft more young talent and unload some poopty contracts, it is what it is".
Hopefully a bunch of dmen can be moved at the deadline for picks and we can have a great draft. It's all we have to look forward to at this point. |

Simmonds deserved it, and it was a memorable way for Laughton to get his first ES point. Hopefully his first NHL goal will come in LA. In this terrible season, the way he has immediately slotted in as a regular is very encouraging. |

“I think it’s more of an individual thing right now with certain players,” Berube said, meaning he has selective benching targets. - jak521
Is it possible for a player benching to be non-selective? |

I'm going to look forward to each and every game. This team is in a tailspin right now, but I think they'll come out of it. They're a better team then this. Playoffs are still possibly, although it's going to be difficult to climb out of this hole that they've dug. |

I have to admit I thought they would fight for a playoff spot. I had no inclinations we would be where we are now. I think it's a no brainer at this point. TANKMODE..The blueline prospects are there...let's add a top forward prospect to that list.
Hextall can move some deadwood at TDLfor picks. If they do get a top 2 pick, I wonder if Hexy considers moving 14.

Grossman, umberger. These guys are doing the job - Just5
Umberger had a pretty good game overall, aside from the goal.
He looked "not dead".
Functionally a decent 4th liner, with a crap contract.
Was so hoping for Read to score on his OT breakaway.
Just not going in for him right now. |

Who would you have sit based on last night alone? I'm not sure if we can afford to scratch Read but I thought he was a total nonfactor. |

I'm more than happy to miss the playoffs this year for a solid draft pick (hopefully more after trades) to make this team better. |

Forward wise, I'd continue to sit Lecavalier. I would not sit Read. Defense wise, Luke Schenn would be scratched next game, and Del Zotto back in. |

Exactly, it's one thing to be at the bottom of the standings after 8 games or even 15, but when you are there after 24, you have to face the reality that you are a bad hockey team. Even if everything went right from here on in, the best I can see them doing is maybe picking up 65 points in there final 58 games which would leave them at 85 for the season.
All 85 points does is pretty much lock them into picking somewhere between 7-11. I'd much rather they finish with 65-70 and have a very good chance to be in the top 3. |
