Can easily find more values like Schultz/MDZ in August, or get some young dmen back in some of those deals. Overpaying for dmen isn't some inescapable fate. - Tomahawk

That homestand might be something where they collect 7 of 8 points to withstand that slate of road games. If they were winning on the road, I'd be more comfortable, but (frank) me, things are going to have to seriously change PDQ if they're going to turn this around |

Then they can overpay for another defenseman once they get rid of Coburn, Grossmann, MacDonald, Schultz and Del Zotto. Good plan! - MJL
No. Just because you move MacDonald woldn't mean you had to make another bad deal. You can move guys like Coburn, Macdonald and Grossmann and Schenn. Yes you probably can't move them all but you can move them. You move two and let Morin and Hagg or At or Gostisbeire in the lineup.
You also lookat another Del Zotto type. The guy we signed to be a 7th defensman is a regular right now. You find a value player use money wisely while letting the prospect filter in.

Especially when Hagg, Ghost and Morin will be realistic candidates to make the team out of camp next season. |

The way they have played on the road, expecting any better than maybe 3-6-3 is a reach, IMO. That would leave em at 11-19-7. Game over, please play again. |

That Columbus , New Jersey , Carolina trifecta will go along way in determining where this team finishes in the draft order. If they sweep them, I think they will probably pick somewhere in the 7-11 range. If they lose 2 out of 3, I think its bottom 4 or 5 and then hopefully bottom 3.
This team needs a rebuild. It's going to take two to three seasons. They might as well start now. |

2-9-2 on the road so far. Their poop gets exposed even worse when they can't line-match. With 8 of 12 being away games... they could effectively be completely out of it by New Year. |

You can be eliminated from playoff contention in December -- if they don't start collecting two points and giving no points against Eastern Conference teams that are in front of them, for example, they could very well be done like dinner before the calendar flips.
I know this board doesn't love math. But if they don't turn it around very, very quickly, they're dangerously close to making it so they will have to play at a pace that teams like the Penguins and Ducks aren't capable of playing - AllInForFlyers
They certainly could be, if they don't start winning some game soon. As it is, the odds are against them. But they aren't eliminated yet. |

What coach isn't dead set in his ways. This is not making sense. And what you're omitting from the formula, is the opinion of some fans involved. And how they're judging the moves. Any time a coach scratches a player, benches a player, plays a player more, whatever, it is selective. |

He's on a one-year contract. You could bring him back next season after getting a pick at the deadline from a playoff team. - Feanor
You could. The other team could also like what they have and re-sign him. |

You basically need the defense to do a complete 180 PLUS get at least a number of secondary scorers to go on incredible tears -- meanwhile, Mase/G/Jake have to keep playing out of their minds without missing a beat.
Doesn't seem likely. - Tomahawk
No, they just need players to play like they're capable of, and get back to actually playing like a team. |

I wouldn't sit Luke again, at least not yet. He had a rough night last night but it was one game out of three. The other two, he's responded well.
Matt Read isn't even starting in PK situation anymore. It might be more about winning the faceoffs but I'm seeing more and more of Giroux and Couturier out there together for an extended period of time. - SuperSchennBros
Schenn has played a lot more then 3 games this year, and overall he hasn't been good. The other 6 are better. |

The ratio isn't much worse than marquee UFA's that don't work out.
I'd rather pay peanuts and see a guy fail, than pay $51M and see him do the same. |

I didn't say just move MacDonald, I talked about moving them all at the same time. Ridiculously bad move. There are more busts to be found in August then gems. Think back about the bargain defenseman the Flyers have brought in, in the past. Remember Foster? |

2 things need to happen, and this team will be looking good.
They need a top 5 pick
They need to keep benching Vinny
Even RJ has held his own out there without Vinny in the lineup
Moving albatrosses like Amac would be gravy |

It's a lot worse. If your fotunate enough to pick the right one, it can work out. But lots of busts out there when picking from the bargain bin. |

At what point to you except that these players aren't good enough? You can maybe make the argument that they are miscast but its hard to say they can play better when they have shown no evidence of that. As far as last year goes, they struggled to make the playoffs and that was with Timonen. This team looks exactly as many thought it would without Timonen; like a dumpster fire in and getting out of their own end. |
