Fwiw.. Bob Nicholson is hoping (& expected by many) to replace Rene Faisel at the next IIHF election in 2 years. So why would he go to/be hired by Edmonton for only 2 years? For sure he didn't need the job.
My best guess is he was hired to for the specific purpose of using his experience, skill and contacts and get the best available management team in place in time for the new arena.
A well though-out change in management can take time which could explain why there haven't been any trades (Ekland and others not withstanding.)
Besides that I just can't see Nicholson ever allowing himself to be associated with a loser. That would go against his entire career.
