Steve Mason followed a tremendous performance in Tuesday's 2-1 loss in Anaheim with a so-so outing in Anaheim. While he did not yield anything that was outright awful, he was a shade off his angle or late to react to a few of Anaheim's goals.
I'm shocked that Mason struggled in the second game of a back to back. No one could have predicted that would happen. |

It's alarming but way too soon to pull the plug (not suggesting you are saying that) - ob18
I don't even find it alarming. I don't think what Terry Murray said was that big of a deal. He's probably said it to Haag already this season. You can push a player but you're never going to teach them motivation. He'll either start doing it or he won't. It's on Haag.
You'd hate to see talent like that go to waste. No one can stop Haag from being an NHL player but Haag. |

Agreed. I just think they are trying to motivate him. He's already good, but I think, their feeling is, if he pushes himself that much harder, he can be great. - BiggE
I hope so. I would love to see a guy who can play with an edge. A controlled edge. A guy will crosscheck you in the back not because he is angry or rattled, but just because its a "business decision" to send a message. Lay a good hit because its the right time for it.
Hagg seems to me that he will be a plug and play second pair guy who will not get rattled, not get goaded in to dumb things, and not get too low or too high after bad or good things happen.
He can be our emotionless cyborg who compliments the emotional games of Morin and Ghost.

Should have started Emery, he would have had a shut out.

I think the real problem with the organization is that Rosehill has 66 PIM in 16 AHL games, while Stortini has only 40 PIM in 19 games. Mathers has a paltry 31, but in only 8 games.
This organization is going waaaaayyyy too soft. |

2015 UFA Dmen sorted by age.
There are more than a few players on this list who can match the ability of what we currently have who can be signed for less money at a shorter term. We don't need long term solutions. We need a bridge to the kids.
No guarantee they will all pan out, but they need to be given the shot.
(to continue the discussion) - MBFlyerfan
I agree.
If you can get a 1st rounder and higher end prospect for coburn you move him. Move MacDonald. You can get a dman for a year if needed but you can also then bring up to prospects. Morin looked pretty close and so does Hagg, Alt and Gostisbiere.

What are you basing Morin, Hagg, and Alt's readiness off of? Please do not say preseason, where Blair Jones looked like Sidney Crosby. |

Come on, tell me you wouldn't love it if Berube went out on the ice, grabbed Corey Perry, and started to unload on him. |

A playoff team looking for a guy to put them over the top would be my guess. All this much closer to the deadline unless a team comes knocking now with a great offer. |

Yeah definitely not saying that.
I hope this franchise gives this kid every single opportunity possible to succeed here and im not just talking about the AHL level. Im talking playing up with the big boys for an extended period of time, after 2-3 years in the A. Then if he doesn't perform well get rid of the guy. Surely he can do what Luke Schenn has done so often with this team and maybe just maybe surpass his greatness.
Some guys are just how they are, like MOAT said you can harp a guy all you want about what you want from him it's up to him to do it and while i would love for Hagg to raise that about himself for the chance to go from a good player to a great one, i'd be happy with good, there is nothing wrong with good, especially when you look at the crop of defense playing right now.

Yes.
I know the difference between Morin looking like he belongs compared to Jones having a good preseason. Hagg also played against men already for MODO so I don't think it will be as big of an adjustment moving up. He is getting a full taste f the NA game. I think he can push for a spot next season.
I didn't say they would be locks. But would we be any worse by sprinkling in a couple prospects?
I just think this is the year to actually use some of the assets we have and get parts back. For once we can move our peices and get those picks we always laugh that we pay other teams. |
