I gotta say, I'd be more then happy to get throw the season to get Connor Mcdavid. Once you get MacDavid though, major changes get forced. In fact, I'd say only and I mean only Giroux is safe. The one/two punch of Giroux and McDavid would be unbelievable. Should this happen, where does this leave a guy like Scott Laughton? If the Flyers are lucky enough to get a Connor McDavid, the fantasy of Giroux, Couturier and Laughton down the middle for years to come instantly blows up, although Laughton is still really cheap.

Could trade Couturier and keep Laughton, add a defenseman to the mix so Giroux and McDavid don;t have to score 4 goals a night

I suppose I'm just greedy but Couturier is easily the more polished defensive center. Couturier for the moment has the higher value, I think Couturier is the guy I'd like to continue to run with. Also, Couturier has the size between the two.

If the Flyers are lucky enough to draft McDavid, so many players become expendable. They should have no problem with throwing away anyone of a number one defenseman.

Couturier is more expensive and has a higher trade value. But If I have McDavid, he's never going to be 2nd line C.

Pens are not an especially good fit, Greiss isn't better than Scrivens and Sutter isn't a first line center. Unless Ehrhoff decides to waive his NTC
- Jsaquella

yeah. even their defense. the pens have good prospects, but i think they want a more veteran presence back there.

And they can want a first line center all they want, but unless theyre looking for a guy like tyler bozak, or an older guy like eric staal or joe thornton, they are going to be out of luck.

I would imagine they would first try Laughton at wing if they somehow ended up with a superstar center.

I disagree on that last part. With this sort of thinking, you might as well trade Giroux the day you draft Mcdavid. Malkin is a second line center to Crosby and probably shouldn't be. Datsyuk and Zetterberg have had to take turns on the number one spot. Forsberg to Sakic. It's a good problem to have.

For me, the building blocks would be Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, Couturier and if drafted, Mcdavid. I would make the tough decisions with Schenn, Read, Raffl and Laughton. I'd be looking for a top line Left Wing and a stud defenseman.

If I had to choose, and I realize it's very early, I would keep Laughton ahead of Couts. It's completely subjective. Laughton, at this point, seems the more well-rounded player.

Couts has more NHL experience, but they are roughly the same size, and nearly the same age, and I just see Laughton being the better player when all is said and done. That doesn't mean I don't like Couts, or that I wouldn't ultimately like to keep both players on the team. It's just if I had to choose, I probably keep Laughton. And like I said, very subjective.

Grossmann is listed at 6'4", Couts at 6'3", and Laughton at 6'1".

Laughton's no St Louis.

Unfortunately the draft is still a long way away. While I have no problem looking forward to players to draft I think we all need to take a step back as we're now deciding who stays and who goes. Fact is even the 30th place team doesn't even have that great of shot at landing McDavid.

Yeah, if they can land McDavid or Eichel, I wouldn't be opposed to moving Couturier for a young scoring winger with speed

I've gotta wonder if Cody Franson could be had this summer. He's 3.3 Million now, a UFA at the end of this season at age 27. He's 6'5" point machine from the blue line who averages 20 minutes a night.
- SuperSchennBros

He's this year's Niskanen... gonna get way more $ than he's worth. Yes, points... but the guys a bad skater and isn't great on D. Basically Kurtis Foster in his prime.

I'd rather identify a guy who hasn't broken out yet, like they managed to do w Coburn, or a guy who's stock is down, like MDZ, versus paying out the nose for a guy who's perceived value is temporarily throught the roof, like they did w Bryz and AMac.

So yeah... Wings' albatross has 9pts in 7-games since coming out of the press box, and is relishing the move from center to wing:
