Absolutely. However, McDavid is probably the most hyped prospect since Tavares, maybe since Crosby. I'm the first to agree that potential is just that, potential. But, If (long shot if) the Flyers had a shot at McDavid, I think you take the chance on that potential unless you get a crazy deal you just can't turn down. - jmatchett383
Yeah I think they were talking about him before this past year's draft. As you said IF they land the #1 pick, you have to take him in my eyes. |

Which I think a number of teams would absolutely offer. |

Yea and Tavares is under a PPG player. Id rather deal that prospect for a guaranteed stud D-man. - GOA88
He was also out last season for a long period of time |

The thing I dont like about McDavid is his lack of size. We dont need a team with Giroux and McDavid as the top 2 centers. That is too small IMO. |

I highly doubt they can land the #1 or #2 spot. After the #1 draft the odds are about the same.

like ive been railing about the past few days... in 2007 (iirc) they had the decond overall pick, it became luke schenn... screw the draft... draft well but live in the now |

There is no guarantee that McDavid or Eichel are going to be great players in the NHL. If they are traded we could potentially land a legit cornerstone defensemen. Dont like Weber? Go for someone younger. I would rather deal with guarantees than hoping and banking on a prospect. - GOA88
If you're trading that pick, you get a return like the Nordiques got for Lindros. McDavid could be better than Giroux. Not going to trade that kind of potential unless I'm getting a massive return. |

His whole career has been that way.... He is a good player but we arent talking about a generational talent here. |

Which is what I would expect. It think it would be worth it. Rather have a great package than just one player that MIGHT be better than Giroux. Thing is McDavid wont get the return Lindros demanded. Lindros was the total package. McDavid is not. |

I dont want McDavid or Eichel. Id rather they trade that pick(if they get it) for a #1 defensemen.
Weber - GOA88
Not that I don't want McDavid or Eichel, but if they can get a top young #1 defenseman and something else for that pick if they had it, I'd do it. - MJL

But the Nordiques didn't get a stud defenseman for Lindros (sorry, Kerry Huffman and Steve Duchesne). |

It'd have to be a massive package. At the bare minimum, I'd want to land a top line winger and a top pair defenseman, plus picks. I'm not joking when I say I'd want a return comparable to what Lindros got Quebec.
Getting a guy who is a probable generational talent trumps a lot of things. For comparison's sake, Sidney Crosby scored 168 points in 62 games in his draft year, in the high scoring QMJHL for a 2.7 PPG average. McDavid, in the lower scoring OHL, had 51 points in 18 games, which is a 2.8 PPG average. It's asinine how dominant McDavid was before he got hurt.
He's got decent size (6'1" 185) and room to grow. He's not a Ryan Nugent-Hopkins |

They got Steve Duchesne, who was one of the top offensive D-men in the NHL at the time. They also got assets that could be dealt for a top defenseman |

Well in that case this should become Tankadelphia. Either way we would get something great from it. Hopefully. This season is lost, might as well make it worth while. |

Yeah, updated that to include Duchesne. Still, he was never a potential Norris caliber defenseman or a guy you could play 27-30 minutes/game.
Also, joking. |

I wouldn't this time. MacDavid is supposed to be a cant miss like Crosby or Stamkos. You cant pass up something like that.

The roster is too good to be a bottom-barrel team. You'd have to do what the Sixers did and basically deplete all good assets. This team would have to get that pick via lottery. |

They aren't getting McDavid, or Eichel. That being said, this years first round pick is probably their most valuable trade chip. |

Would you trade Stamkos for something like Shea Weber, Filip Forsberg, and a 2016 first rounder?
How about for PK Subban, Alex Galchenyuk, and a 2015 1st rounder? |
