Have a chance at the San Jose guy, or Babcock.
Best they will get now is Murray or trap lover Boucher. Cote promoted to HC of the AHL team?
Berube wont last, but wait for the right time for the hammer to fall. At first light, on the fifth day, look to the East. - flyer_nutter
Whoever they bring in, I sure as hell hope they have more on their resume than 1 season as an AHL HC and a ringing endorsement from Paul Holmgren. |

The funny thing is, neither one of Babcock or San Jose man are d-first guys.
The pendulum would swing yet again. |

Listen, I have no problem with coaches pushing guys and working them to get the most out of them an what have you... but playing the media card on a 19 year old wouldnt have been my best idea. Work him really hard, ride him. Call him out in the locker, on the bench. Call him out one on one. Reach out over the phone, away from the "work" atmosphere. Media always seems to back fire a bit. - jak521
From the blog -
Until recently, most discussions about the areas where Hägg needs to get better came in off-the-record conversations with people in and around the organization.
Do you think that Hagg wasn't at least informed that they were looking for improvement in certain areas; that it was spoken about by management behind closed doors without one mention to the player? C'mon.

Could you really see Babcock wanting to come here, with this roster? I'm sure he appreciates a good challenge, but damn... he'd have to be masochistic to want to try whipping this sorry group into a possession team that can play up to his standards. |

Why can't Las Vegas and Seattle just make their teams already so we can give them Umberger, Vinny, MacDonald, and L.Schenn. |

You know what's depressing? They'd have to protect Vinny due to his NMC. |

Coburn is one player. And I think he is a much better defenseman than many give him credit for. He hasn't spent that much time away from Timonen. And I don't blame him if the Flyers have to use him as a #1 when he isn't a #1. - MJL
But you gave him as an example of a guy who can play better but he has not shown that he can away from Timonen. He has played exactly the way he is playing now whenever he has been paired with some one else. MacDonald has played the exact same way he is playing now when he was on the Islanders. Del Zotto was so good in Nashville that they didn't even qualify him. These guys are who they are. They are not going to magically turn into top 3 defensemen with a little more focus. Same goes with the rest of the defense. |

That is why I would like Blashill from Grand Rapids.
Look at the kids he prepared for the NHL and how they are doing . |

Not too many good possession guys, primarily on that back end which to me is still issue #1. Forwards get so much blame but this D core is trash. Cant pass the puck move than 5 feet, or skate it up more than a few strides. God forbid making a move around a forechecker to get it up the ice.
Every forward has to come back and babysit these guys, which must be an exhausting way to play. Not to say its all on the D, but you get my drift.
The prospects hopefully seem like a group that can play with the puck. Some of the forwards can if not many. A promising FA class not this off-season but next, with a good pick coming in this year and probably next as well.. I could see him wanting to come to Philly.
Do think at the end of it he stays in Detriot though and its just media BS.

Tippett, McLellan, Blashill... those are my personal top-3. Hopefully the first two will be available this summer.
I don't think they have a realistic shot at Babcock. |

The one fear, is the constant choke jobs. I don't blame all on him, because the core has been largely the same but I am not super high on bringing in a guy that has "choker" branded into his ass. |

Just curious... How many more games in a row does Coach Face Punch get to lose? - PLindbergh31
enough to get a top 2 pick?
Seriously tho, is it really the coach or is it the players? I mean, they played well for him last year. I don't know |

Judging by their play, yes. I'm just waiting for the math to confirm it. Shouldn't take long. - mcefalu
The math will delude you until Feb/Mar.

If you're of the opinion that Coburn can't play better then he currently is, I completely disagree with that notion.
What do you think the Flyers should do with Coburn? |

I hear you. But they can't fire all the players. It's going to reach a point where Berube has to go. Just bring in a place holder until next year. |

The way they won last year was completely unsustainable.
Nobody should be surprised how they're faring this season. Instead of playing like poop and inexplicably winning, they're playing like poop and getting the results they deserve. - Tomahawk
The PK being 30th is very surprising, even without Kimmo. They coaches changed it, and not for the better. |

I watch the LA KIngs play as much as I can, because I enjoy watching them play. They've been the best possession team in the league the last few years. When I watch them play, I consistently see all their forwards coming back deep to support thier defenseman. I see a lot of short passes made to breaking forwards deep inside the Kings zone. They play as a 5 man unit all up and down the ice. I guess their defenseman need to be babysat, and they're probably exhausted. |

My friend, you are going to have a long battle to the end of this year, and probably next as well. Best of luck. Have fun? |
