I blame the Bryzgalov signing for handcuffing this team so much. That and the Eminger trade. And probably something about Matt Carle and/or Jeff Carter. - jmatchett383

It's amazing the long term affects the Lou Angotti trade has had on this franchise! |

Keep them oozing after they are down. |

Damien Brunner on waivers. I'm not a huge fan of waiver pickups, but he's a FA at the end of the year. Depending on the Flyers' cap allowance, he's one guy I'd like to take a chance on. - jmatchett383
Nah.... Much better playing guys like VandeVelde and Rinaldo. |

This current Flyers team is the softest group I can ever remember. No tenacity, no piss and vinegar in the lineup ... no toughness along the boards.
Even that VERY soft Flyers team under Craig Ramsey would beat this marshmallow bunch ... and Ramsey was fired by Clarke because the team was "too easy to play against."
This doesn't bode for Berube. |

Mine as well. I just feel everyone outside of Voracek could be better. Voracek brings it EVERY night. Giroux seems too laid back to me. - GOA88
1. Top 6 in scoring (5 points behind Crosby and Voracek)
2. 55.3% on faceoffs (pretty damn solid)
3. +6 (tops on a bad team)
Agreed..Giroux, why you no fight, play defense or goalie.
Jake and Giroux play different games. Giroux is a proven elite producer in this league while right now Voracek is producing like an elite player.

I know this might sound crazy but I am little disappointed in Giroux. His shooting and nose for the net has not been good. Yea sure he can pass but he has yet to hit that next level we need from him this season. When will he go in beast mode? - GOA88

Look I get that. To me though the stats do not paint the full picture of Giroux. He is a different player than he was in 2012. His intensity level has dropped off noticeably. Even in the shootouts he guesses himself. That used to be his thing. I dont see a Giroux that would take charge of a game or shift anymore. He seems fine with just setting up on the half wall and dishing the puck. A majority of his points this season have come from just being on the ice with Voracek and his individual efforts. |

Through the last few years, there's been a lot of talk about how the Flyers should build. How they should stop using Free Agency, and stop going for the quick fix, and concentrate on building through the draft. I certainly agree with that to an extent. I think a team should use all the tools and methods available to them, to build a team. Which includes the draft, trades, free agency, waiver claims, etc. Use it all. Now there is a lot of talk about selling off veteran players for future assets. I don't disagree with that, if that's what it comes to. But do you ever notice how some teams are always sellers at the deadline? There's no guarantees. It's about making the right moves, regardless of what the mechanism is. - MJL
Yes.
(Even UFA can be an excellent tool, if used wisely and with an eye toward value.) |

haha, yeah ... you would think that an ex-enforcer for a coach and a maniac ex-goaltender for a gm would want their team to be tough to play against. |

I don't advocate tanking, I advocate having a realistic view of your team & it's chances.
Based on talent, the Flyers should be a bubble team. There are a lot of pieces under performing. The list includes core guys(Simmonds, Couturier), old vets on their last gasp(Lecavalier & Umberger) and guys in the middle(Read, Coburn).
Even if those players were performing to expected levels, this team is not a contender, or even a piece or two away. They face serious cap issues. I have zero issues with them deciding to sell.
In terms if building, you need smart trades, drafting and free agency to be a winner. What they need to avoid is giving fading or mediocre players big contracts. No long term deals to Lecavaliers & AMacs. Find more MDZ types & save the long deals for key guys |

Lol.
I'd be OK w/ Brunner. Not sure they could waive enough bodies to get under the cap in time to grab him, tho. |
