Why has Jesper bern a healthy scratch for three games. Ghost is out, so the spot is there. Has he been that bad that theyd rather dress an ECHL stiff?

Flemming is not that bad as 3rd pair AHL guy, I have seen him play a lot in the E and he did not look bad the game I saw him in Allentown. Working hard all the time and with results, not bad puck skills, he has not been sent down.

They have Maxim LaMarche who split time between last years Phantoms and the Elmira Jackals on a Flyers AHL contract splitting time as the occasional callup from the E, big young guy needs maturation.

Tearing down is a lot easier than building back up, it seems.

Hopefully Hexy will be just as good as Homer at the former, and a lot lot better than him at the latter.

I'm doubting even a second rounder. It was horrible when Homer traded for him, we were told to wait and not judge it immediately. It turns out that it was worse than it looked at first glance.

I can't believe all the words and effort that have been spent by people defending Schenn's lackluster play. So what if he was a healthy scratch in Toronto we were told, Toronto just wasn't using him right. He was a healthy scratch when we got him and he'll be a healthy scratch when he leaves here.

CBJ should be sellers at the deadline so maybe we will see what the market for four a bit more seasons of Scott Hartnell really is.

I could so see Hartnell getting traded from the Jackets in a deal that betters their franchise in awaythat makes ccomplete sense and our fan base finding new ways to complain about this team.

I just checked on capgeek. According to their information, there is one huge difference between the two contracts though. Hartnell has a full No Movement Clause whereas Umberger has a modified No Trade Clause.

Given this, don't they have the option to waiving Umberger at assigning him to the Phantoms, say going into next year, if he doesn't start playing better?

Flyers normally play the Kings well for some reason. Maybe it's just wishful thinking but I say they win and leave Cali with a 1-1-1 record.

Hartsy hasn't exactly been playing great for the BJ's either... he just broke and 11-game pointless streak a couple of nights ago... been terrible defensively and taking a lot of minors to boot.

I'm not entirely convinced that a dump him for picks kind of deal was out there to be had.

Say what you want about Hartnell but at least he brought an element to his game which Umberger has brought NOTHING. If they could have moved him for picks and brought in a guy like Leo Komarov...that would have been a Smart hockey move.

In the Lindros era, the first hit of the game set the tempo. When Eric (or whoever) threw the first big check, the crowd got into it and the team followed suit. Today, if Rinaldo throws a big check and it's not followed by a penalty, the team considers itself lucky and continues on its timid way to not causing a continuous parade to the penalty box.

Who throws a clean, hard check these days to start a game? Luke might eventually get one, but doesn't set out to set the pace at the beginning of the game. As the saying goes, this isn't your father's Flyers team.

Hartnell gave the first line that element of toughness. The 2nd line has it with Simmonds. I am not saying we would be much better off in the standings but Hartnell was a character guy on and off the ice. I just feel they could have got more for him or even a nice draft pick ( maybe a 2nd). This team needs a lot of work but one thing they have to do is play with more aggression ,which was one of the reasons no one liked to play the Flyers. Hextall wasted Hartnell as a trade chip IMO

With all due respect I think it's somewhat foolish to assume this team is soft because Hartnell is no longer here to set a tempo. It's pretty clear that the mandate to take less penalties has had a big effect on how the Flyers are playing. They are attempting to be less physical and play to a strength of defensive positioning. I would like to see them be a bit more physical as well but I can't cite Hartnell as the missing variable. Berube has a plan in mind that involves discipline all over the ice. In fact, I don't think it would be too big of a stretch to assume Hartnell would be getting healthy scratched right now if he were still here.

I get what you're saying. The trade sure as hell hasn't panned out in our favor.

Losing Hartnell affected the grit, but the blame for the lack of 'fear of the Flyers' lies well beyond that one deal.

Is it the theory that they want to take less penalties, so they're taking pains to play less aggressively? If that's the case, they're reaping what they've sown.

Hartnell was a physical player.. He is not here, he has been replaced by someone who has been horrible. Does that make a difference. I would say yes. Would Hartnell make them a much better team.. No, but at least they would bring more to the table every night. He was a guy that was also we'll liked in the room. That hurts a team when that type guy is moved.They could have got more for Hartnell. As I said before.. Leo Komarov was out there as a UFA. A smart move would have been to pick him up and trade Hartnell for a pick ( if they wanted rid of him)

Not calling the loss of Hartnell the reason, at all. I have echoed your thoughts in my post above.

The problem is the flyers are playing timid and not hard to play against. Berube must go now. A quote from Luke Schenn sums it up. Basically afraid of making a mistake and you can sit in the pressbox. Problem is...coburn has been really really bad and yet he gets a pass. Same with umberger. There is no ryme or rythem for berube and seems to be throwing crap at the wall and see if it fits. He is over his head and must be replaced.
