anybody interested in Morin, 23 yrs old, from CHI? might be the type of situation where a guy stuck on a great team's scratch list just needs a prolonged opp. LW who shoots R. already a proven scorer @ AHL level. prob cost pick or a prospect...

I hope so , I just don't know how they have been winning. You look at their roster and it is not as good as ours...but they have been winning.

Jeff Carter sure does pick odd areas to camp out and shoot. I know Mason got a piece of the first shot but in the dying moments of the same shot, way wide. Claude Giroux who virtually does the same thing in terms of shooting does the same thing but smarter about where he hangs out, plus whether or not he chooses to wrist it or slap it, he gets it on net. Carter probably should also consider slapping it!

Kings won the cup.

Flyers beat the Kings.

I think the conclusion is obvious.

before the season started i said this team could get into the playoffs and sneak into the ecf's, i still believe that, especially with the way mason is capable of playing. you cant fill all the holes at the deadline but you could trade the schenn's and read maybe see if someone will take umberger, to get aat least a winger with some speed for the top 6, and defenseman that wont give away our blueline with ease.... cue the spreadsheet experts and advanced stat guys telling me no.
- JoeRussomanno

This is not a playoff team by any stretch of the imagination. The Flyers play about 1 period of good hockey and then take the rest of the day off leaving both goal tenders to fend for themselves. They do not forecheck, they lose just about every battle for the puck, and not one team in the league has any reservation about skating through the nuetral zone because they know the the Flyers will just skate backwards toward their own zone. This team is about as submissive as they come. It is almost like they are on the ice trying to not get hurt.

If you look at the Flyers roster, outside of a # 1 dman, the biggest weakness is at LW. Can you imagine JVR on the LW playing with Giroux and Voracek? I don't think it would be a stretch to say that line could be the top line in the NHL.

Of course Holmgren had to set the franchise back by trading JVR for an empty uniform. (frank)ing sickening. As I've said before, a lot of the problems this franchise has is simply not being able to get out of their own way.

I am still furious about the JVR trade. I have said it before... Homer got RIPPED OFf on that deal. I didn't like it from day one.
We have a LW wing problem right? Well we traded JVR and Hartnell for....... A healthy scratch and a Corpse!!!! Two DUMB moves IMO.

Agreed. Outshot 16 to 38...3 to 16 in the 3rd...unsustainable, and they were extremely lucky to hold on to get the win. Mason is 15th in the league in SV% with a train wreck of a defense in front of him. I'd hate to see what he could do with a competent, confident squad helping him.

if they think their PK not improving anytime soon- which it actually has, but- he'd be a good p/u. think he's due 1.8/yr. might be last yr of contract, not sure. would have to move out VV and one other to fit him i believe.

at this point, i'd rather take a flyer on a guy like morin.

1. I dont get the Giroux stuff..sorry..just not seeing it..Dominant on faceoffs, leads the team in +/-, most minutes played last night of any forward, scored the first goal off a great play he started. Oh wait, he isnt playing with the same intensity. It's like no matter what he does (Hart trophy finalist, leading point producer in the NHL over the past 5 years) the WIP fans on this site are gonna whine. OMG, he was caught out there for a goal against..horrible! Everyone's great defensive hope in Couturier is a -3 while Giroux is a +6..Get over it, ill take everything else Giroux does if it means his defensive game isnt great. When we list the things wrong on this bad team right now he , Voracek and Mason should not be anywhere near that list.

2. Couturier and Simmonds have really elevated their games and it's the number 1 thing we needed.Jake and Giroux , as dynamic and great as they both have been, needed secondary scoring. Everyone knows I am not as enamored with Couturier as some here but he has looked like a different player recently. Physical, confident, dangerous.

3. Read still seems off..I wonder if he is dealing with an injury?

4. This team is by far the least physical team I have ever seen. Literally the only people that hit are the antichrist I mean Rinaldo , Simmonds and L. Schenn.

5. Streit is doing what he does which is quietly just be a consistent dman that produces points. Im glad they acquired him because he brings something ever team needs.

other rumor site speculating he could be had for a pick. not happy w/ playing time. good thing w/ him is that he already has extensive AHL time, so he'd hit the ground running w/ whatever he's got.

He's got a ton of skill, for sure and decent size. He's only an average skater, which could limit him and he's been knocked for his compete level and defensive shortcomings.

Not sure what he'd cost to acquire. He's been a very good AHL scorer, but hasn't been able to replicate it in the NHL. Might just need a break with Chicago having so much depth.

The Giroux hatred baffles me. The guy does what ever he is asked, kills penalties, scores at more than a point per game rate and provides leadership.

I'd say Grossmann also provides good physical play, outside of the three you mention

Mason was the reason they were in the game...what I take from this game is the continued amount of mistakes they make.....and you really see the system break downs they have when they play a team with a suburb system like LA.
You can see where the Flyers need to get to as a team....talent wise and system wise they do not currently have the pieces to get there.

- landros 2

I don't see it having anything to do with systems. LA is simply a bigger, stronger, and better team then the Flyers are. The Flyers and the rest of the NHL should be thankful that LA isn't a better finishing team.

Part of that is probably due to the shallow talent pool the Flyers have systemically. The Phantoms are a middle of the road AHL team, and the injuries that have hit them and the Flyers have hurt the depth of the Royals.
- Jsaquella

the Flyers only really provide a few players to the ECHL team and without looking I would bet most ECHL teams are the same way with their NHL/AHL affiliates.

That's true as well...I think the count right now is three, with Alderson being sent down

Eventually, they'll probably try to sneak him through waivers.

He has Patrick Sharp goal-scoring potential. Would love for them to poach talent off deep, contending teams.

I'd absolutely try to poach him if they attempt to sneak him through waivers. Trying to figure out a deal for the Flyers that makes sense. Chicago doesn't have a ton of needs.

Yesterday wasn't pretty, but it's a step in the right direction. Good to see the PK step up, MacDonald did yeoman's work on the PK. A couple of those calls against the Flyers were brutal. I don't think Read ever touched the player when he got called for tripping. And the call on Bellemare was weak also.
