Let's not forget Seabs impact on Duncs play. I contend Duncs has two Norris cuz Seabs is his D-partner. I'd approach a Seabs/Crow question the same way SB did in July 2010 with the Hammer/Nemo question; different circumstances of course.

Nothing again Crow, but him, Bucks and Sharp will be the first three (guys under a 15-16 contract) the 'Hawks will consider moving should the cap stagnates.
Just hope the Canook dollar gets back up over US $0.92 by April.

I resent this Its' Canuck.I can live with the other spelling errors #24. And I believe that you keep Seabrook at whatever the cost as he is not replaced by promise as Bows stated.

On the contrary, I think comparing any two players as examples when it comes to age is valid. For every Nik Lidstrom or Teemu Selanne there is a Dany Heatley or Martin Havlat. The fact is, once a player hits 30 years old, there is no telling how long his career will continue at a high level. Could Seabrook be Chris Chelios and play for another 7-8 years at top line caliber and then another 2-3 at Top 4 level? Absolutely. But he could also go the Wade Redden route and take a sharp downturn.

I know I'm talking in extremes here and reality is likely to be somewhere between the two, but the fact remains that the only real certainty you have about Brent Seabrook is his present day value and capabilities. If I'm being practical, giving Johnny Oduya 4 years $16 million works out better and is easier to stomach if Oduya turns to garbage (plus any assets you could acquire from a Seabrook deal prior to next season) than 7 years $49M does if Seabrook starts to decline in 2-3 years.

So if you're sure that Seabs has lots left in the tank, then give him 6-7 more. If you're not, I'm in favor of Oduya for the next couple years and trading Seabrook at the peak of his value.

Look at the injury history of both players you compare. Huge difference.

Once again. Look around the league. Aside from clear cut number 1 Dmen, how many top pairing guys do you see better than Seabrook?

That answer every question I have regarding who will be moved. Also. think about how the Bowman's think a team should be built. Hell, I wouldn't be the least bit shocked if somehow Sharp manages to survive whatever moves that need to be made this off season for cap reasons.

I agree - much easier to replace Sharp (a winger who plays 1st, 2nd, or 3rd line) than Seabs (top 2 defenseman).

Moving out Sharp and Bickell is pretty much a consensus no-brainer. Sharp is a luxury on this team, certainly nice to have around, but only if you have the salary cap space. Bickell has to go, plain and simple, and the Hawks have a potential replacement in Mcniell. Roszival has to be dumped as well, and although it probably will not be a popular sentiment right now, I think you have to look at saying goodbye to Versteeg, especially with Danault and possibly Teravainen in the wings and waiting.

Nevermind Seabrook and Oduya, there is also Shaw, Kruger and Saad looking at significant raises in the next year or two. I agree with most here, in that keeping Seabrook is pretty much imperative, as you just do not replace a guy like that. That said, if a team were to lose their minds and overwhelm the Hawks with an offer!

Of course, if the cap does get a nice bump, it will help, but if not, then all eyes have to be on Crawford, and for as well as he has played, Stan overpaid him by at least 1.5 mill a season, and he would have to go. Darling and Raanta have potential, but you then have to go out and get a veteran who would come here on the cheap (like Brad Richards)...maybe Craig Anderson comes back?

Lighten up, Francis. How 'bout Loonie? That work for you?

Guess all of is agree #7 is a keeper.

Though I will also add, the return for him must exactly fill the 'Hawks immediate and future needs, should SB serious entertain offers.

The only thing the Oilers have that would even be considered for Seabrook is their draft choice in this year's draft. That's it.

He would never see the ice. Q would just point to the locker room after his first shift.

Russians and Hawks should never be mixed again. Ever. They have had no success with Russian players except for one.

And they traded him for Joe (frank)ing Murphy.

Wait. We have a guy who was the captain of the Soviet machine that was known as a hockey team, So let's trade him for Joe Murphy. Bob Pulford should have been dragged out of his office and beaten that day.

There has not been a more accurate post on this site in many months.

Yak has no f'n clue what he's doing out on an NHL rink. In fact, he isn't that far removed from just playing pickup hockey with Vladamir Putin for a living in the abandoned Socchi Arena and looking for stray dogs to ship to David Backes.

Yeah we definitely had crappy luck with them. Even though he didn't play in the games, tretiak worked well with belfour. At least when he was with the team and not back home

I am certain my words will get taken out of context and blasted all over twitter by some children who are apparently poorly supervised by their parents.

But I am of the belief, as I always have been, that goalies are made by this defense, not the other way around. The goalies themselves admit it

So that said, assuming you had to move Sharp and Bickell and say another $6 million, do you keep this defense intact , deal Crawford (when his value will never be higher) and roll with Darling and Raanta?

Or do you lose Seabrook and keep Crawford?

The good news is, they have pretty much a full season and playoffs left to find out what they really have with these two guys. And my point is, they have to look at ALL their big deals, if the cap goes down.

Plus, if Saad keeps playing like he has the last few games, cha-ching

- John Jaeckel

Not that I want to see Crawford moved but if it comes down to keeping the D in tact or moving Crawford I move Crawford.

Everything about them is minor league , except the poor bastards who pay top dollar and fill up their barn every night. I had season tickets in Edmonton from 2007 to 2010 and by the last year I couldn't even sell them to my colleagues at work for below what I had paid for them. I ended up giving around 15 sets of tickets to a local radio sports talk show who in turn had contests and gave them away. I guess I was one of those poor bastards for 4 years. At least I went to all of the Hawk visits and they didn't lose over those years.

Really tough call. I also hope it never comes to that. I want all 4 of keith, seabrook, hammer, and crawford retiring as hawks. I really have come around on crawford. I think he really has kept the hawks in many games, especially in the playoffs. To me he has buried those 2 awful ot goals against phoenix.

I was living in Calgary when the OIlers were winning their Cups. I have been a Hawk fan all of my life but I sure cheered for Calgary whenever they played the Oilers during that period.
