Would anyone give Ryan Malone shot?
- gravyboy33

Didn't we allow him in our open tryouts or such before the season? I know other teams looked at him too... That was his shot.

Someone who's out there who could be a good placeholder until everyone is healthy is Ray Whitney. I know he's 42, but could play tip 6 for 20 games while everyone gets healthy

I thought he skated with the Rags.....and they signed him, but eventually sent him packing.

Stick a fork in him.

Ah, I thought of old man Ray... but I think after what Shero did with pursuing too many aging veterans, Ray is not even permitted as an option with our organization right now.

A good canadian Nova Scotian kid with a good hit on Turris. I fail to see anything Dirty about the hit.

I'm not saying sign him to a 3 year deal. He would be a top 6 option that would cost nothing

Ike Taylor is hurting the Steelers D too much. He can't keep up with the speed. Time to cut ties.

Well I guess the extra question regarding him... Is if he is still in game playing shape? I have not heard anything on him since the season started... he is retired technically, right?

No thanks. They can't afford to be adding a potential worthless contract.
- madmike71

Very true. We are actually already at the 50 contract limit, so even making a waiver claim or signing a player means we need to trade away a prospect another team would actually take.

The sole purpose of a hit or check is to seperate the man from the puck... if they dont have the puck then the hit has no room in the game. thats how players get hurt. an injury happens on a clean good hit, hey, tough rocks. but there was no reason for that hit. There is a big gulf between the people that want to see hard hitting hockey for the right purposes and those that just want to see people lit up. peoples got to ask themselves which camp they are in
- ChrisMS

I'm in the camp that dirty plays should be taken out of the game. Especially boarding plays that are useless to the game BUT there is more purpose to hits than separating a player from the puck. A message can be sent as well. A player coming east and west through the crease gets laid out. It shows the player that ice won't be easy to come by and gives them something to think about for next time

It's hockey, hits like that make the game. It was "close" to dirty, but it wasn't. His hit was close to his head but the fact was that he didn't hit him in the head and was a good hit. There's no way for him to back out of that hit and turris needs to keep his head up.

Alexander Steen to the Pens? What would it take to land him?
- IronCity

He's expensive and starting to decline a bit possibly due to age, he is 30, or concussions, he has had two. He can definitely keep up with Sid and Hornqvist for a couple years though.

if they have the puck, sure... great! but if not its interferance. its against the rules and discurages fast skilled hockey players from showing their talents.

You mean like how Crosby basically never carries the puck through dangerous areas anymore?

It's a game the Penguins just can't win right until the league starts to punish dangerous hits. If the Penguins try to play clean, Dubinsky and Staal happens. If they field their own deterrents, they're hypocrites.

so how has their "deterrents" work. downie stopping crosby from getting hacked up? bortz? its definately on the league going garage, but id rather ice a talented player over them and beat them on the score board. although I'll take those clean hard checks that puts someone on their ass in the neutral zone when they try to skate the puck through.

Oh, I'm with you. I think guys like Downie increase the odds of someone taking a run at 87 and 71.

It'll never happen, but I'd like to see what the game would look like if they cut game day rosters to 16 skaters. 9 F's, 6 D, 1 sub at either position. Top line forwards are playing 20 minutes a night anyway, and it would result in a more skilled game, as the bottom 2 or 3 forwards from each team would suddenly be in the AHL.

This might sound outlandish, but maybe its not all that unbelievable. We keep talking about St. Louis, how about T.J. Oshie?

He comes in at a stomachable 4.175 mil and is struggling this year in a more marginalized roll so he may come at a cheaper price than he usually would. St Louis has forwards that that can step into NHL rolls in their pipeline, but their D prospects aren't overwhelmingly impressive and they have Jackman and Gunnarsson potentially walking soon. Plus, since T.J. is being called upon less to carry an offensive workload in St. Louis with the emergence of Vladimir Tarasenko, they might want to shed some cap and take advantage of some ELCs at both forward and defense in order to make space to pay Vlad who is most definitely a rising star in this league and who is going to be a RFA after this season.

Think about it. We'd be getting a 27 year old great hockey player who is signed for the next three years at just a slightly bigger price tag than Kunitz and Duper. We'd have to do some cap shedding on our part, but I think we'd have what St Louis would want: a young NHL ready defenseman on an ELC who is a potential stud. What do you think gets this done?

Depending on what we trade, we may not have to shed any cap space actually... But I think many here would like Oshie.

St. Louis has plenty of young defensemen on their roster, and more in the pipeline.

What they really need is a front-line center who will play the way Stastny was supposed to for 7 mil a year.

easier to add two franchises then huh? I dont think that would work though. look at the pens... 82 games is too long a season for 3 lines... would tucker everyone out. I would like to see a 32 team league with home and home against every team. 62 game season... would make the games more valuable.

They have dmen who are 3 years from being in the NHL and none look to be better than a 3rd pairing player. You dangle harrington or despres in front of them and you could make a nice package for oshie
