yep. 95-2004 they were always right there. 2005- it's been all over the place. it (frank)ing sucks. - hammarby31
It really does -- even with increased parity, it sucks
I don't mind salary caps because small markets won't stop crying until one is in place and all that crying gets old
But to me, all they do is create a mish-mash of teams that aren't good enough to win and aren't bad enough to lose big, so all you have to live for is waiting for your team to be bad enough to go through a cycle of complete ineptitude |

i'm just over it. of course i want them to win, i want them to make the playoffs, but if they don't, it's not the end of the world. i've waited 34 years. what's another one. i can do this in my sleep. - hammarby31
maybe im just too emotionally invested then. i take these things badly. the pens in may usually end up in a severe downturn in my quality of living. |

for as much as it stymies the teams in this state. i really do believe in a salary cap. it is an imperfect system. but i think its a required element. |

People can disagree, but to me -- and it just wasn't because the Flyers were good -- but hockey was better with no cap and teams that were good could absolutely load up for Cup runs
Colorado with Roy and then Bourque and then Blake, Toronto and Philly loading up because they knew they were going to face each other, Dallas bringing in Brett Hull and trading a former first-round pick for Joe Nieuwendyk, which netted them a Cup -- even though that first-round pick was named...Jarome Iginla

Right? Who gives a (frank). When your top line has to work their asses off and their best passing option is Nik (frank)ing Grossmann your (frank)ed. wake me up when we get to the podium. - wilsonecho91
i probably only have one (frank) left to give, because i think it's impossible for me give no (frank)s. it's in my dna.
it makes me sick.
i'm at the point where i want the #1. |

exactly. hockey is by far my favorite sport. but baseball just has such an indelible nature with summer and just childhood memories that it will always mean more to me than just the game itself. and i grew up with the phillies sucking. im too young to remember the 93 team. its weird. i loved them when they sucked, and i still got fulfillment out of them. but now after tasting what winning baseball is, its hard to go back. but they are a rotting corpse, and they need to realize that right now.
maybe its because i am not a flyers fan, so i dont have the bitterness that many understandably have. but i dont look at the flyers team as something that needs to be slashed and burned. they have A LOT there. - stayinthefnnet
Couldn't have said it better myself. Baseball is such a constant with me. Some of my best memories are attending games at the Vet, like Travis Lee hitting a grand slam or Robert Person hitting a home run. With those teams you always could feel that they were getting close, though. Now it just seems they have no direction.
I think the Flyers are too talented to finish last, even in the bottom 5. But I'm getting the feeling that they'll be closer to the team from 2013. Even last year when things were going so badly you could at least feel a pulse on the team. Now it's just 'meh'. |

and when teams gamble, regardless of the circumstances, and it fails miserably, like vinny, there's very little that can be done. i miss hockey from the 90s-2004 because $ wasn't part of the equation, and teams could operate however they needed to try to put the best team they could on the ice without any repercussions other than spending an owner's money. team's are just ham strung now, and i hate it. every (frank)ing thing goes back to $ and the (frank)ing cap.

i miss the vet. i formed my love for the team and sport and summer then. everything was just so much easier in life. what i would give for anything in life to make me as happy as going to a game did when i was 9 or 10, or the rush that opening a pack of baseball cards used to.
the phils were awful. but it was just baseball. the winning seasons were so so cool. but it also made the team chic, and that drove me crazy to no end. all of a sudden everyone in my generation latched on like crazy, wearing shirts of guys they couldnt even tell you the position they played. god i hate people haha |

Yep, I'm with you. I lived across the street from a kid who made fun of me to no end or loving the Phillies. Of course in 2008, he was wearing a Rollins t-shirt every other day of the week. |

again, i understand. i hate losing way more than i love winning, but then again, i've never seen them win it all. i suspect that if it ever happens, i'll love winning more than anything. it's the only reason i'm still here, because i'm waiting for that day to come. |

i can bring myself to tears when imagine the experience of them winning the cup. i'm not kidding. and just to give you a little perspective, i started watching the flyers in 1980 when i was 7. i've seen them lose 5 straight trips the final, and 5 conference finals mixed in over those 34 years in addition to the death of my hero in his prime when i was a teenager and your perspective on the world is a lot different than when your an adult and have a family of your own.
this is nothing. |

But, if they do it right this season, meaning they sell off assets for prospects and picks AND get a top 5 pick...they could be legit again. If they hover around playoff contention, pulling the trigger will be harder. And if they happen to actually squeak into the playoffs, the problems will be downplayed. Yet again. |
