But, if they do it right this season, meaning they sell off assets for prospects and picks AND get a top 5 pick...they could be legit again. If they hover around playoff contention, pulling the trigger will be harder. And if they happen to actually squeak into the playoffs, the problems will be downplayed. Yet again. - wolfhounds

Yeah, the fan is emotional, which is both good and bad - most fans wouldn't want to trade Chase Utley, myself included, but what if you could help rebuild the Phillies by moving him? For the Flyers it was Gagne, Richards, Carter. The Pens moved Talbot, Staal, Orpik. The team is bigger than the individual, and new players will always rotate in and out...it's the timing that's critical. |

yeah. honestly, looking back, i can see the logic in both sides. i fault talbot 0 in any way whatsoever. he was a career third/fourth line guy. rich by average standards, but that contract he was offered by the flyers was life changing money.
i am a loyalty person, as much as i possibly can be. but in his shoes, i would have done the same. |

i have to admit i do not know what they are. is it sort of a celebration of jewish athletes?
that would explain why the rink looks better than your average Skate Zone haha |

haha such a tender embrace.
maybe the reason i dont think the flyers need to engage in a full on scorched earth policy approach is that i think if you put either of those players on the flyers, they are in the playoffs. this season. |

it's an olympic-like event held in israel every 4 years. over 9000 athletes from around the world. i played for the us senior squad.
the rink is in metula, near the lebanese border in northern israel. olympic sized sheet, called the canada centre. a new facility is opening (or just did) in jersualem, like an nhl arena that can host hockey, baseketball, concerts etc. it's a beaut. |

i probably only have one (frank) left to give, because i think it's impossible for me give no (frank)s. it's in my dna.
it makes me sick.
i'm at the point where i want the #1. - hammarby31
This is the year to want it. This #1 gets you McDavid or just about any player in the league(you could literally get anyone with this pick save for maybe Stamkos). And hell, if you trade it you can make whoever gets it take RJ, Vinny, whatevers left of Prongers contract and still get a mega haul in return.
If the Flyers somehow ended up with the 1st overall I would be plenty tempted to move the pick. |

Put Doughty on the Flyers, or just about any team, and they get a whole lot better. All of a sudden we have a very solid D core playing within their abilities with Coburn, Streit, AMac and whoever fills out the bottom 2. Kronwall would be good, but not quite as dynamic, imo, but I get your point.
I'm not sure who's talking scorched earth, but we have some holes, some bad contracts, no cap money and a team playing bad hockey. They got outshot by a Columbus team with 10 giveaways, most of those in their D zone.
It's going to be very hard for the Flyers to make the necessary moves, but not impossible. And the silver lining is that if there was ever a recent season to grin and bear, it's this one with the upcoming draft class chock full of talent. |
