Beube has a boss you know.

He might very well love to bring up a Cousins or Leirer but that might not be an option. Hextall's stance on patience with the younger players in the AHL has limited options for the NHL club.

We have no clue about meetings that happen probably every day but hextall could be insisting that Umberger play. Also really what other options are available to him. You can replace Umberger with Vinny if you want but then you lose someone to tak PK minutes. Sit both Umberger and Vinny but then you have players like Rinaldo, VDV, Bellemare, and maybe Jones or Akeson or Rosehill taking on more minutes or larger rolls.

If that's the case, he needs to stfu and do his own job. The roster should be set by the coach.. the one on the floor, involved with the team and setting the lines. If Hextall can't stay out of that and mind his own job, he shouldn't be in the organization. Far too often, the front office gets involved in things the coach should be doing, and all it does is cause confusion, dilutes things, and makes the coach look even worse (or incompetent).. Same goes for Ed Snider, whenever he barks orders down the chain... Sure, it's your team.. but you have people below you for a reason.. because each one knows better than you do, their jobs and responsibilities.

Why have a GM if the owner is going to tell him how to do his job every hour of every day? Why have a head coach if the GM is going to set the lines for him and tell him who's playing??

This thread reads like my brain in September.

Frankly, looking at this roster, I think they've over achieved.

Who knows what the team's brass has in mind? I don't, I just trust that Hextall has a plan in place, he seems to be going about certain things the right way, like focus on the draft and patience with prospects, things that we flyers fans have learned the hard way to ring true. I just hope he builds a championship team soon.

That, I have no problem with.. and as far as using the prospects in the lineup, that is his call. But as far as playing Umberger, as suggested, that should not be his call. If he is making that call, he's making Berube look like a complete fool... and that wouldn't be fair to Berube, or his jurisdiction as head coach.

He's not a dump. With his cap hit and being under contract through next season, he'll be attractive to quite a few teams and should bring back something worthwhile, or he won't be going anywhere.

I think RJ has played better recently, obviously not to the level his contract indicates, but he's been competent. It's not like he can healthy scratch both Vinny and RJ and I think RJ is slotted well with Coots and Read, whereas Vinny can't find a steady role. I have a sneaking suspicion that Hextall wants to tank and maybe Berube is buying in on that plan. I mean the worst record in the league guarantees you a future all star maybe even hall of famer

But like I said in previous threads... this team has just the right amount of "suck"... they're too good to get a top 5 pick, but they suck too bad to go anywhere in playoffs if they even make it. So if they're going to tank, they better go all in.. throw Vinny in the lineup, VdV, split up Voracek and Giroux, give Coburn more playing time in tight situations, etc.

I think fear of making it look too obvious, I think the league would be quick to slap a huge fine or penalize the flyers a high draft pick if it's as obvious as the Sixers and penguins.

Edit: I also think many flyers fans would be highly upset to waste a year in Giroux's and Voracek's prime
