Trading off, and not actively trying to improve are not all that different. The only reason Murray hasn't traded off all our good players is because they are part of our future. Darcy was trading of good players we were trying to get rid of.

If the goal was playoffs, he'd make big moves (and no a 2nd rounder for gorges doesn't count) and he probably would have fired Nolan after the first 15 games. guys like Strachan, Weber, Meszaros, Kaleta, Benoit are fringe nhlers just like the names you mentioned above.

- Sabresfan-365

Weber and Kaleta were on that previous roster, so I could add those names too. That makes 9 guys. Everybody was saying well maybe mezarous could come back to form and help us make the playoffs or play good enough to get moved at the deadline. Benoit just came off a career year and was brought in as a 6th/7th. Strachan was part of this roster by default. Again Darcy was clearly trying to be the worst team in the NHL to optimize his chances for the #1 overall pick. Aka tanking. Gmtm this's season, has yet to prove to me that he wants the sabres to finish last.

absolutely. i get the feeling murray likes ristolainen and zadarov. i shudder to think what else he will have to add to get a young ppg forward if we take hanifin. probably better off keeping myers and drafting strome- assuming we at least draft 3rd.
- rover16

I keep hammering this point, but you got to stagger the contracts. If 3 or 4 of our defencemen are all similar in age, we're going to have to sign them all at the same time. We have cap space now, but it will be much tighter in 2-3 years.
Thats why Meyers is valuable.mhe eats minutes, plays acceptably and is locked up long term at a decent cap hit.
I could actually see one of Risto or Zads go before meyers fot this reason alone.

Actually i was, Hockeysfuture had him as an 8 out 10 prospect, thought he'd be low risk high reward. Also Paul Hamilton hated him which made me like him even more

Mcbain was a throw in on the sekera for a 2nd trade.

Darcy was giving Ron rolston a roster that had Kaleta, weber, mcbain, Sulzer, di'agostini, Scott, a clearly not ready grigorenko, Tallender, konopka plus trading away all our good players. That's tanking.

so if they do finish last, it's just a freak accident? The team stats (advanced and regular) are all at or near the bottom. Still getting outshot like crazy, it's a better team than last year no doubt. But I'm guessing Murray is more interested in landing a top 2 pick than finishing with the 9th pick in the draft.

They might have, but I think they had more love for him 2-3 years prior when the move would have been better.

People are to set on us finishing 30th or 29th, some are going to pissed when we don't and it won't be beacuse we didn't try, it will be because other teams tried harder.
- SABRES 89

Our rebuild wont crumble because we dont get McDavid or Eichel. Hanifin, Strome, Werenski, Kylington... these are all top 3 prospects in any other draft year.

You honestly need to relax a little bit. Who cares if other people are "too set" on it. If you disagree with it, so be it. Youre becoming a broken record of discontent when you post.

Yup. Nice to see someone else was more excited about a bunny than the player.

I would have enjoyed the services of a guy like Knopka more 7 years ago when there was more of a role. Plus it makes more sense when you have a good team vs. one totally in transition.

The Sabres possession #'s are too low for them to continue having this level of success. We're going to go back down.

Finally someone mentioned him

And I agree but I suppose we'd all feel a lot more at ease if we did land one of McDavid/Eichel.

it all leaked out yesterday, to me

3 people in the warehouse said her goal was to get a team member fired so she could get their job

I am a lead, so I get the benefit of doubt 99 times out of 100, so she made a poor choice

I also just found out she is pregnant with her 5th kid from 5th different daddy so it's not her first poor choice

ahhh thats what I like to see...a woman working hard to get that Welfare Raise.

His FO percentage was a good thing. Cheaper than goose and not much worse of a player....and he would actually fight people.

Ive posted numerous times how much Im not really concerned about missing out on them. I want them. I just understand landing them only accelerates the rebuild, it doesnt stall or crumble it. The more I see of Marner, he might push into the Strome and Hanifin group too.

People are already forgetting about Reinhart. Oh he only had 1 pt in 9 games, BUST!!...

And theres always next year to shoot for Austin Matthews, when the draft is in Buffalo

I just don't think it's as obvious of a tank job as Darcy did. Everybody knew we were a bad team comming into this season but our roster positions are justifiable. I cannot justify at least 3 of those roster spots last year, like at all. Konopka, Scott and mcbain.

And he would win. Unfortunately like I said, we are too in transition to have a guy like that. By the time we figure out who's good enough to stay here long term he wont be around anyways.

Was banging that drum last year, glad to see he's stepped his game up. I think it's just the hype around this years draft that has all of us really wanting it. But yea i can't see drafting 3rd or 4th crumbling the rebuild.

Totally forgot it's in buffalo next year

Except he assembled a team that literally, by all statistical metrics, is worse than last years team.
