Paul Hamilton called him a second pairing based on how well Zads/Risto are playing. Murray's comment was just that Meyers doesn't make his D partner better. But rather Meyers plays his best with the right D partner. I don't think Murray ever mentioned where he slotted in Number-wise with the Defense. - seedy
Yes, you are correct. Based on the summary of the interview it was Hamilton who said Myers would be "at best a second pairing" in a couple years. I don't think he needed to add "at best" at all. He'll be at least a 2nd pairing no doubt. |

Paul Hamilton this manana
- No problem trading Myers, no problem keeping him. A couple years from now Risto and Zad are top pair, Myers at best would be 2nd pair. Which would be ok. Good players should make their team and teammates better. Howard asked how often does Myers make others better (they were talking about Boychuk and what he's done for the Isles)? GMTM told Mr. Paul Hamilton that Myers isn't really that guy who will make others better, he's more of a guy that if he's paired with the right guy he'll play well.

GMTM is a Myers "hater" so is Paul Hamilton and Howard Simon. - GilPerreault11
I just listened to the same interview . Boy you can skew your hate and take any interview into what you want it to be. As far as making others better? Did you see when he was paired with Strachan ? He made him look like an All star. I did not hear the hate you seem to dwell on . But I have not been bitter since that 2014 draft either. Love have Risto and Zads are playing . But who is Theodore putting against the other teams best players on a consistent basis? Who is playing the most minutes every night? If Myers get traded I want a massive return. |

My hate? I like Myers, I am just not infatuated with the guy. I don't think he's a 1st pairing D man on a decent team and I knew this would ruffle your feathers |

In Chicago, some nights Niklas Hjalmarsson plays the most minutes of the three (Keith,Seabrook, Hammer)
IMO, that's how this team could look with all three |

While I think this is a dumb statement by Hamilton, that makes more sense - sbroads24
He mentioned that being a future possibility, not currently....I kind of forgot that part. |

Murray is on record saying "Myers is not the next big thing" and that his rookie year set unrealistic expectations. Murray sees him as a complimentary player and not a franchise guy - MCGUIZZY
For some reason, that makes people generalize around here between stud and bust. Nothing wrong with him not being a franchise guy...he doesn't make franchise guy money. |

EXACTLY.
Why can't the guy JUST be a reasonably-priced, reliable defenceman?

He can be and is that. Problem is ALOT of us feel his rookie year was not a fluke, and he can be much more when this team is good.
I have to say, he is more polarizing than Ryan Miller, which I would have never imagined. I have never seen so many people in the media ignore someone when they are playing well like they do with Myers. |

I definitely think he's returning to form.
One thing working for him in his rookie year is that he was new, so not many teams had a "book" on him.
Both Ruff and Rolston were X's and O's guys. And as the team got worse, I think both coaches wanted to team to adhere to strict systemic guidelines, which caused them to think more and react less. Meyers was definitely a victim of that. I'm not sure if he will ever look like he did his rookie year. I'm liking his play now.....would definitely like if it got even better.

In a lot of ways, that Calder winning season may have been the worst thing for him. He regressed badly for a time after that. Some of it was because of reasons beyond his control, but some of it was not. He was dealing with injuries, but he also went through a spell where one could legitimately question his commitment. Even when he's playing well, there's an expectation for the other shoe to drop, for him to fall back to his old ways.
Personally, I think he's just like a lot of young players in this franchise: a good piece to build with, not build around. There was a time where he was expected to be the latter, and he disappointed in that regard, hence the bitterness from some (including myself for a little while). I still maintain that if this team is ever going to be a championship team, they need a defenseman that ends up being better than he is. I don't think a team where Tyler Myers is your #1 defenseman ever wins a championship. |

Me either. Hopefully, the US doesn't fade down the stretch like they did last year. |

It seems like they have solid leadership. Eichel is more of a leader now than he was before. So that could help keep the team motivated. |
