It is required for the vw 2 litre turbo -tsi or fsi... If I could put the cheaper stuff in there I would, but don't want to risk any issues- have heard some people alternate every tank.
My bro used to have an 8cy explorer and if he put in premium then he got great mileage- he was on the island working for Columbia fuels and got a staff rate, so he'd put it in all the time and could go say 25% further on a tank.
I went from an Elantra GT to a vw Jetta GLI and love the way it drives but damn it is a lot more expensive to run. Guessing no matter what German car you have, maintenance is more expensive. - hillbillydeluxe
Maintenance is a female dog on German rides; I extended my warranty to 7 years just for that reason. |

I am just too fecking cheap.
In between the Elantra and Jetta, I bought my friends old A4 Avant with the 1.8t and 5speed. Had to replace the clutch, $1400. Wifey can't drive a stick so I sold it and moved on, but it was fun to drive and had the performance chip.
Wanted a used GTI but settled for a used GLI. Too bad it isn't a hatchback but love the way it handles and has just about everything except nav and the self dimming rear view mirror.
HID headlights... one went out, upon looking around at the reputable places, they are expensive to replace, $100 a bulb, but found some kids on Craigslist that sold a knock off brand- 2 for $30. But a b!tch to replace. Had to get a mechanic friend to do it. |

My wife has a Jetta TDI - great vehicle with very low maintenance requirements. Proactively replace the timing chain every 125k kilo's and you are good to go.

I went for an IQ test and got the instructor to show me how to answer the first question. I told her I didn't still understand so she showed me how to do the next one. I played ignorant so she showed me one more time how to complete the quiz and showed me the third answer.
I scored a 78 and she told me I am not that smart.
I replied I got you to answer the for three questions for me, so who is the real dummy |

Is it a chain? Never realized.
Just have a couple former coworkers who have the tdi's and they love'em. I wouldn't mind having one, but really don't drive enough to make it worth it as they say...
How much is an oil change? Do you go to the dealer, do it yourself- need any special equipment or go to a smaller place? I was lucky enough to be introduced to a vw mechanic who does a bit of work for me as needed. When I said $1400 to replace clutch in the A4, was told I saved roughly 1k. |

Yes it's a chain and yes I do the oil changes myself - really easy and cheap. Just need a couple of wrenches and an oil change bucket. Oil filter cap is a bit of a bugger but doable. Filter is like $20 and oil another $30. Car was out of warranty ages ago so I'm not concerned about voiding.
PS - they drive great too like most other Germans. Tight steering, good suspension, quiet on the road noise. |

Elliot is a good goalie. He will most likely be traded when he comes back . MDZ is a decent young Dman that will get better year to year. |

I got 4 first for next year now. Maybe I can toss a couple and a roster player to Fosco to get my original first back and hopefully land Mcdavid |

From what I've heard, the higher octane actually results in better gas mileage so it is a wash. - docmorgan
Meh, it's all relevant to how your engine knock sensors are set. |

Sounds like you have things set up the way you want.
Saving money and you know what is going on... went to the quick lube yadda yadda once and never again.
They are great rides and love the handling. Wifey was driving a protégé and now she loves the jetta.
