Sounds personnel but by all means speak for everyone. You have the floor.
- SuperSchennBros

Nothing personal with you and I have no desire to speak for everyone. You are the one who lumped everyone who dislike's MJL into a specific box.

I am part of the "people" you mentioned and I disagree with your assessment.

I don't think you can get Weber, as Nashville has invested so much in him financially and PR-wise. But, in a vacuum, you're probably talking:

One of Couturier or B. Schenn
One of Voracek or Simmonds
2015 1st
2016 1st
One of Morin/Ghost/Sanheim

Something along those lines. When you're talking a proven, elite defenseman, you're talking the most valued commodity in the league (outside of possible HOFers like Stamkos/Crosby). Now, some (Weber/Pietrangelo/SUbban) will cost more than others (McDonagh), but for the top-end of the elite, that's likely the package.

- jmatchett383

Keep B. Schenn - Possibly move Couturier for the right deal especially with how Laughton has been playing.

Keep Voracek and Simmonds

Better damn well keep those 1st round picks

Looks like we just need to continue to develop Morin/Ghost/Sanheim and continue to bolster the prospect pool with decent drafting. We have a solid opportunity to add possibly one of two top tier centers, and if not, a really solid winger this year. Hasn't that been Hextall's plan this whole time?

Before we are so quick to move a 21 year old solid two-way center lets remember that Laughton has only played about 12 NHL games. I like what i see from laughton but lets give it time before we regret tradin Couturier.

Everyone is so quick to trade Couturier and then so quick to blast the Flyers for trading Sharpe when they did.

But are they really? I don't get that impression. I think Buyouts for VLC and Umby are a real option at the end of the season. Then they can sign replacements at salaries, that combined with the cap penalties, would still be less than what VLC and Umby are being paid now.

I agree it is very plausible that the Flyers could get a 2nd(and probably more) for Coburn if they decided to deal him at the deadline. There will be playoff teams who feel they need a solid 2nd pair anchor type guy. I'm not sure I see it happening unless the deal is real good.

But to reiterate, I don't really feel the Flyers are desperate to make any kind of move. That is not to say they would not if the deal made sense. But I don't think Hextall makes any deal that doesn't help the team on the ice. That isn't desperation to me.

- MBFlyerfan

That's how I see it. Is he kicking some tires to see what's out there right now? I hope so. But I'm pretty sure - from what he's said to the media - that he's not in a panic to turn the team around immediately.

Yes he is still ok but I think this team is still about 2 years away. Also with read he is 29 so if i can get a more offensive winger and younger I am ok moving him. I think we have some good two way players coming like Leirer . Also if you make good trades and good draft picks you can really take a good step moving forward.
- J35Bacher

I don't want the to make trades for the sake of trades or just to get rid of people (except Lecavalier and Umberger). There's a large movement calling for Read to be dealt because he's slumping which I think is a bit short sighted. Besides, the return you get for Read is probably going to be less than the value you'd get from him staying on the team.

I would at least become proactive and offer Read for Oshie. The Blues save money on that deal.
- SuperSchennBros

Oshie is younger and a lot better than Read though. I would offer any deal like this on the off (less than 1%) chance the other team agrees.

Bottom line is, if you view everything only in the present, you're going to be disappointed but if you look at the long term potential, you'll be a lot more satisfied.

If I can upgrade Read with a more offensive winger and younger I do it. I think the team lacks natural skill and creativity. Yes Read has some value but he isn't 25-26 and I think what he can do you can find in the draft or possibly Taylor Leirer could provide.

I am not saying just move him for the sake to trade.

Scratch lecavalier at all costs. Make this guy as uncomfortable as possible. Blast fans and cold air into the cote suite. Make a new nameplate " scratchalier" for his locker. Flyers need to do all they can to make him quit his contract

They wont. Devils 4 Flyers 2

Same problems.... Couts, Read, Umberger, Coburn, Rinaldo, Amac

No team speed, physicality, cohesion.

- GOA88

Couturier has done much better than everyone else on that list.

You already have Laughton penciled in as our long term 2C? He's scored 1 ES point in 11 games, and that was at 6 on 5.

You don't want to do that because then the organization looks like an ass. I know the Flyers have made bad deals over the years but one thing is players always said the organiztion was great to them.

If you can upgrade, sure, but that won't be all that easy and you'd have to give up other assets. Read is a good defensive winger that can skate and averages 20+ goals a year so he's not exactly a slouch either. He's older but you have to remember that he hasn't been subjected to the wear and tear of NHL hockey like other 28 year olds because of his late start.

C$ fell another 1.162% yesterday. Now down over 2% since Daly said there could be a small increase in cap if the $C holds. Not going to happen.

- Canadian teams account for almost 40% of total revenue,
- Rogers windfall is being paid out in CAD,

Each point the CAD loses against the USD from now until July 1 potentially amounts to about an estimated 200-275k cap impact per team, assuming the league meets its 5% growth forecast.

So keep an eye on the posted prices at your local filling station... if they keep going down, the CAD is going down with it, and so is the projected salary cap for next year.

Is he a lot better? He is in his 7th full season and has only scored 20 goals once in his career.

He is a better playmaker/stickhandler, but Read has scored 20 twice and was on pace for 20 during the lockout, is better defensively, and probably a bit faster.

Both are having down seasons. Read for some unknown as yet reason, and Oshie because of a concussion.

Oshie is probably a better player, but he is not A LOT better by any stretch.

i think he has not demonstrated much value to this point which makes the return you get in a trade less; there is a chance he begins to snap out of it and may bring more at the tdl.....as much of a regression as he and couturier have seemingly taken is of concern and i think fuels speculation about the fitness of the coach. unfortunately it seems the flyers have finally decided to stop firing coaches now instead of when hitch or lavy was behind the bench

Tying a huge part of an economy to a fuel source the world has to move away from is sound fiscal policy.

Long term? I think he has the wheels and the hands to produce more offensively than Couturier. We've already seen his nose for the net on more than a couple instances. Right now I think they're both third line shutdown centers at their current development level.

While the goals haven't started coming yet, I feel his line with Simmonds and Raffl/B.Schenn has certainly looked more dominate at 5v5 than Couturier's line. Do you think couturier would look as good with that same set of wingers/zone starts? I don't think he would.
