Both players have a decent amount of blame to take... NHL should have given two games. It's a joke that you allow a top five player to get hit like that and do nothing. Wheather it's lobbying, proximity or actual ties, teams from the north east get preferential treatment from the NHLs justice department... They are never made examples of and they never get the proverbial book thrown at them... - PuckAndSticks
Ah what? I think it's more Seidenberg doesn't have a history of bad plays and is a clean player. It was by no means intentional. I'm not saying it's a clean hit but Toews put himself in a vulnerable position. |

Hawks fan here and was at the game last night right behind the goal where the his was delivered. Was it a clean hit? No it wasn't. Seidenberg made an error in not seeing the vulnerable position Toews was in. He had his stick up and an delivered his shoulder to the numbers five feet away from the boards. Can't do that.
An error in judgment, 2 minutes justified and given the type a player Seidenberg is, no suspension warranted. Seidenberg is a solid, clean hockey player. Cased closed and let's hope Johnny is OK. |

Unfortunate play, but dont think Seidenberg should be suspended. Not that he's so much stronger than Toews, anybody in that vulnerably position is going to have the same result, its more that there's no way Seidenberg could reasonably avoid what happened. He played it hard and a split second made all the difference, that's how hockey goes sometimes. - 13sundin13
Agreed with Seidenberg's comment; there was no intent to injure. Julien loses a lot of credibility trying to blame Toews, however. But he probably is playing the Mike Babcock game of playing the press to keep any league discipline down. |

I don't think Julien really believes that. It's posturing. |

Had me up to there. So you can't turn your back and try to protect a puck 5-6 feet from the boards? Yes, that makes you vulnerable I guess but that's why the penalty was called.

I think there was a tiny bit of a turn cuz at the start of the sequence it looked like Seidenberg was going in shoulder to shoulder - not blaming Toews and i think it was a boarding penalty for sure but it's not a 'dirty' hit and doesn't deserve suspension.
I also disagree with the poster that states its a joke the NHL lets this happen to a top 5 player in the league...doesnt matter if its toews getting hit or andrew shaw the result and the judgement should be the same. |

.. why did lucic need kelly to come and stand up for him?
all i saw was a clip so not sure if lucic could have actually got to him.... just wondering as it seems lucic is getting timid now in days needing other people to stand up for him - nightmare3020
it was nice to see someone else step up. Id rather have Kelly in the box than Looch. This is how they used to play, everyone stood up for each other. I was hoping Krug was gonna go too. And talk about dirty hits...

PC needs to make a deal. I can't stand the 20 minutes of good hockey they play vs good teams. This core needs to get a shake up. Where is that Lucic the other 40 minutes last night? Guy gets demoted to the 4th line and that's when he decides to start making plays. He takes a terrible and I mean terrible too many men on the ice penalty. Then Julien has enough of his BS and drops him and then he comes out flying.
How do you motivate Lucic on a night in and night out basis? Isn't it on the player to do that? I've watched enough of this guy skate around for 40 minutes and not really care till the 3rd. |

When Looch Plays the way he did last night, that's the guy I like. That's the version I wish would show up most nights. Otherwise the inconsistent, coasting, hacking and whacking version is guy I want to dump to anyone who wants him. |

No there won't. No history, no intent to injure. It was unfortunate and hopefully Toews isn't concussed. |

"thunderous hit"
I wouldn't call it a thunderous hit, but wouldn't call it a dirty hit either. And the onus isn't on Toews. Just one of things that happens during the course of a game. |

Careful guy the hawks are going to start labeling you guys the dirtiest team east of the Mississippi
Toews turned
Penalty probably
Suspension no - sycsam
Yes.
Exactly as Seabrook on Backes in last year's playoffs. He turned to follow the puck and got nailed. |

Deserved a penalty, no more. Seidenberg plays the right way most of the time.
Claude's comments are unfortunate, especially in this context, however. Toews turned to play the puck, not to mitigate a hit. I get that it's a coach trying to defend his player in the media, but he'd probably have been better served by simply passing it off, saying he hopes Toews is ok. |

On the Seidenberg hit...Not dirty but maybe avoidable.
Either way it was a hockey play and a 2 minute penalty was assessed.
Did Toews turn? Yes. Did he turn to avoid the hit? no. He turned to make a play on the puck and at the time he was on the goal line, 11 feet away from the boards. Seidenberg was a foot or so outside the crease which puts him 7 (?) feet away from Toews. The puck jumped off Toews' stick towards the end board. He immediately turned to play the puck, (putting his back towards Seidenberg), skating away from Seidenberg. Now, as i said i don't have a real problem with the hit. Penalty, 2 minutes, all good. Hockey is a fast game and those distances are covered in a hurry.
What i do have a problem with is meat head Julian saying, even insinuating, that Toews turned to try to avoid the hit! Or that he was at fault in any way.

Yup. Every coach does it. Nothing to see there. Hockey play, penalty called. Hawks didn't retaliate, so that tells you all you need to know. Wasn't dirty at all. |
