There definitely should have been a provision in the new draft rules that state if you have gotten a bunch of firsts in the last 5 or 6 years, you're automatically bumped to #3 at best in the draft. Or may be you just arent in the lottery for #1 or something.
- seedy

I was worried about other teams throwing in the towel this year because of the draft class. Hamilton has mentioned a few times that if the sabres won TEN more games than last year, they still would have finished 28th- last year. All bets are off this year, edmonton should be done with their rebuild, even if they are built wrong, they have more than enough assets to move to acquire what they need. You dont have to win every trade, sometimes its just a hockey trade. MacT is just gonna hold onto all of his assets and let this play out, and if the whole thing stays broken- he gets rewarded with mceichel. Ridiculous.

A close friend owns a bar on Grand Island, and I was up there today. He got a keg of it as a promo, but the poop is so nasty that nobody was buying it. He started drinking it just to free up the tap, and I tried to be a team player and help him out. Boy is it disgusting.

Haha! I used to work at consumers and we had a guy bring back an OV keg and said it was "undrinkable." We hooked a tap up to it and started pumping it at it started spitting fuzzy blue and green chunks out of it.....thats the grossest beer related thing i have ever seen. That and a co-worker dropping an entire pallet of genny with a fork lift!

Gerbe wasn't traded. He was bought out.
- HonkFortheGoose

I didnt mind Gerbe. We had him, Kennedy & Ennis all coming up around the same time. Most teams only have room for one midget.

Gerbe was never the problem with the sabres.

Ruff needed to give him faster linemates, see max

what amazes me with the oilers is all those high draft picks and a crap pp

http://espn.go.com/nhl/st...ct/year/2015/seasontype/2

5 shorties allowed as well to go with 11 pp goals

Gerbe was never the problem with the solution.

Ruff needed to demote him long ago

- homiedclown

Fixed.....

Gerbe at best is a 3rd liner on a very good team.

Anything more than that and the team was in trouble.

He's a great 4th liner if he were only taller.

The problem is they're drafting in the mid rounds landed them zilch.

All their depth for the most part is playing NHL hockey.

The old boys club that is, is what the problem is.

get rid of the past and replace them with those that have zilch to do with the past and they might just have something.

But what do I know........

It is why I preached in the offseason to not be surprised if they don't land one of McEichel.

You like many set yourselves up for disappointment.

If it happened great. If not I wasn't gonna take a leap of faith(off the Peace Bridge).

What does old boys club mean? Is it that eberle, hall and the nudge know they are immune to discipline so they play hockey however they want even though it's detrimental to the overall team game? Or is it a reference to the management? Sorry Im unfamiliar with that phrase

there should be a rule to prevent teams from gamming the draft, the way Edmonton has done. An example would be that that there is a point value for draft picks.
#1 overall=5 points
#2 overall=4 points
#3=3 points
4-7=2 points
8-10=1 point
Anything beyond that is assigned 0 points bcz ur team is pushing for a playoff spot.
Your point totals over 3 seasons cannot exceed 10 points. So even if u finish last and win the draft lottery you will have to drop to the spot where you do not exceed that total.
Or the nhlpa should step in and demand that a #1 overall has to receive x amount of your teams cap. Making it almost impossible to afford 3 or 4 of them on your team.

I gurantee Edmonton would have drafted differently if they knew that had to hit on their picks. Probably would have taken sequin #1 overall bcz centers are harder to get in a draft and free agency than a great scoring winger.

Oilers losing. surprise.
- sippyd

They're the anti-sabres. Goaltending is stealing losses that could be at least 1 point.

McEichel's not the main concern, real scare is drafting outside the top 5. It'd basically be a wasted season. I'd hate to lose out on a guy like Hanifin or Kylington because of a 1-0 win against the kings where we were outshot 2:1 .

And I'l be taking my leap on North Bridge, far better scenery as far as "your last look" goes.

Forget about eberle he doesn't fit the GMTM mold. Murray is trying to go heavy hockey. I could see taking draisatl and seeing which of the centers can be converted to wing.

Tbh I'm not a huge eberle fan. Eberle reminds me of Derek Roy in his hay day. Not a big shot, undersized, not really fast, goes to the dirty areas, gets on the score sheet a lot and has good vision.
I don't think Edmonton wants to part with Leon, unfortunately.

I don't understand why you would trade one of the sabres best d prospects and a fine AHL/career backup goalie for Derek Roy

Thought......

What about using some assets now to gain young NHL players, for example:
Couturier
Eberle
Tatar
Lazar

*Maybe Blues 1st round & Myers get you that young scorer we desperately need on this team.

This is just a thought, don't want to hear "why would" or "we must Tank"

This team is starting to see some younger players show leadership (Girgs & Risto) and what it takes to win!

WE ARE STARTING TO PEAK AROUND THAT CORNER

but with eberle, hall, rnh, yak on the team, the pp should at least be credible
