So with the latest win streak we're still 27th which would mean the 4th pick. CBJ is winning again so I think the bottom 4 will be us, Arizona, Edmonton and Carolina. It would really suck if we got the 3rd pick and miss out on McEichel. If we have the 3rd pick do we pass on Hanifin and go for Strome and if it's the 4th pick do we choose Strome or Zacha.

I won't get into the strome bit but IMO you can't pass on Hanifin. He's a less hyped version of eichel. He obviously won't score as much as him but im gunna go ahead and guess that's because he's a defensemen. The only scare against him is the same one as ekblad, will he peak too early or even worse, is he the next Jack Johnson (convenient that he went 3rd overall in that 2005 draft). With the depth we have, I'd take the risk and address the need for a forward via trade of surplus.

It's not as glamarous of a pick, but we need a guy like Hanifin badly as well. I feel like the only reason to move it is if it's for someone who's already in the nhl with similar potential (Nugent-Hopkins comes to mind, probably a bad example but it helps make the point)


You'll notice that the almost all mock drafts scouting reports are all over the place...except in the top 3. I've yet to see one that doesn't have Mcdavid-Eichel-Hanifin.

Good points. I was just kicking around some ideas in the event that we draft 3-4. I agree on Hanifin, he's the pick at 3. You are also right that from 4-10 several mocks are all over the place but the consensus seems to be Strome, Zacha, Barzal, Marner, Crouse, Kylington and Werenski.
