I could never hate you frisco. You never banned me...
Seriously though, it's a show that can grow on you. If you have a fondness for the American west and the historical aspect of annexation, you'll love it. I instantly fell in love with the characters, especially that (frank)er Al. I've always enjoyed David Milch's work and his writing in this show was fantastic. Sad that ended so quickly. - mhp
Anyone who hasn't seen through season 1 shouldn't read this:
This is what happened for me. Up till Hickok died it was basically a comic book - Lone Ranger with swear words. Everyone was super good or super evil, and frankly it was kind of boring. When Hickok dies though all that genteel romanticism died with him, and Bullock starts to darken, and Al - who is obvs the anchor of that show, got way more nuanced.
Al's character is based in a lot of the things that make Kevin Spacey's character in House of Cards so compelling - he's charismatic sure, but at core they're both basically people who do what needs to be done. Spacey opens HOC by effectively killing his neighbor's dog who just got hit by a car, because he decided it was the best course of action and queasiness be damned.
I just left off with Al more or less pulling the same thing on the Minister - who was genuinely heartbreaking. But Al's got way more doubt in him...
Anyhoo, I'm convinced that "Deadwood as hell" is going to be the prevalent theme going forward, and it'll be a good one. The minister couldn't live in Deadwood... there wasn't a place for him. |

Not that I've been watching, but from what I read the 'Merks could stand to get the complacency smacked out of them a bit. |

Luke Adam was better. But at least we'll get to see what he does in another organization. |
