As much as I want McDavid, I don't do anything of the sorts. Giroux is an established top 5 forward in the league.. McDavid has everything to prove at the NHL level. Sure, there's a very good possibility he pans out to be a great forward.. maybe as good as they say. But there's also the chance he doesn't.. or injury hits him and ruins his career. Wouldn't be the first time a top prospect doesn't pan out.

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, in this regard. I would rather keep Giroux... the known factor.. than trade him for an unknown factor with more risk.
