With the scarcity of franchise defenseman, and how hard they are to acquire, I'd go the other way. There's quite a few defenseman that I don't think Giroux would fetch in a trade. - MJL
I understand your perspective. I just feel a franchise centerman.... like top 5 player in the world type....is just as valuable as a franchise D-man. I personally believe Giroux is more valuable than any one single D-man in the league right now. Now if a young Pronger, Bourque, Niedermayer, Lidstrom were still playing I would say otherwise, but right now there isnt anyone on that level. |

I think you have a valid point there, that if the Flyers are going to give up that value in assets, they really should be doing it to upgrade the defense. Although they certainly do need a playmaking LW. - MJL
Agreed. I think what it illustrates is that the Flyers are likely not going address their needs via trade without creating future holes, something the Flyers have done before. |

glad you did. the more the merrier.
besides, with actual big time trades in the NHL largely a thing of the past, fiction is usually all we have.
oh and i watched that video of lucic getting dropped. it was beautiful. |

I don't think a defenseman has to be on a Hall of Fame collision course to be above a team not willing to trade the player for Giroux. I don't think Giroux could get you Pietrangelo, Doughty, Subban, or even Weber.

Considering LA has no real need for a center. I can see that being true about Doughty. The rest I believe would be shipped out before the deal was even made official. Especially Subban...... |

I seriously doubt that. And really it has nothing to do with LA not needing a center. Doughty is only 25, and just entering his prime. Center or not, they wouldn't trade him for Giroux.

giroux fluctuates a bit for me, however, you cant simply sweep the fact that he is the league leader in points over the last four years under the rug. that is huge.
still in his prime, under contract control. certainly one of the leagues most valuable assets.
i just think teams are slowly starting to shift from the most valued asset being a center, to the most valued asset being the front line, do it all defender.

Currently Crosby and Stamkos are the only centers I would say are better than Giroux. Sequin is pretty damn close but I'd call it a wash between the two of them. Giroux has been more dominate in the faceoff circle this season as well, a result of his wrists finally being back to 100% I would say. I don't think he has yet to hit full stride this season yet either. We've all seen how much fun it is when Giroux shows Crosby how to hockey in the playoffs
I think Giroux could net you Subban - but that's a deal I wouldn't make. There's no way we could get Doughty for just Giroux. |

I wouldnt even make that deal. Flyers would have no offense.....
For me its real close between Stamkos and Giroux. Stamkos is a great goal scorer and skater but in literally everything else, Giroux is better. Giroux is also a proven playoff performer. |

stamkos has really improved me with his overall growth. i think this postseason will be telling for him, to see whether he has really arrived or not as the total package. |
