Yeah, relative to past performances against Tampa, they played with the puck quite a bit. You could tell Tampa wasn't giving max effort and were probably running on E... even still, they owned the Flyers blue line and the home plate scoring area.

It's just not a good matchup, even under the best of circumstances.

That is what I don't understand about MJL's defensive of him. He is average. Would we really be any worse right now if we rolled out Del Zotto or Manning or Alt over him. ould his money not be better used getting a better winger for Couturier if we wanted to get him more offensively oriented.

That's nonsense. Manning was clearly outmatched in his brief stint with the Flyers this season and is likely a career AHLer, and Alt is struggling to get his game back for the Phantoms after his shoulder injury.

Might be slightly worse, it's not really ripping MacDonald. It's the contract he was given. If he's making Grossmann or Schenn cash, you can be happy with him.

Agreed. That term, with the uncertain effect of oil prices on the Canadian dollar, plus the NHLPA being unwilling to use their 5% escalator, could be an issue if the cap stagnates.

No, the money wouldn't be better spent getting a better winger for Couturier in my opinion. The Flyers had a bigger need to add a solid all around top 4 puck moving defensman, and they filled that need by adding MacDonald.

At a minimum, IMO, they HAVE to sit one of Luke, AMac, and Grossmann.

Grossmann is never gonna sit if Berube has a say.

That leaves the other two guys.

But this team wasn't a contender going into this season. Even hextall himself had made the comment we would need to take a step back to go forward. I would be ok living with mistakes from those two.
