He has proven he can play second line, first as well since sid has been out. I think he can easily be a 2c. Plays every situation, great on draw, solid defensively and pretty good offensively. We won't move him this year, maybe next year when his contract will be up after the season and sundwvist will be ready. For now he is too valuable to our depth, something management has stressed in the new regime. - znagle
Ok, interesting to know.
How about Depres, where does he fit on your depth chart? Wherever it is, he'd be a lot high on Edmontons. |

I'll throw my batpoop crazy trade request into the ring:
Adams, Bennett, Scuderi, and a 1st Rounder for Hall.
I believe that's a fantastic trade...for Pittsburgh. Edmonton...well...I don't care. They're the Oilers. They had their fair share of fantastic players in their team history. It's time for the other side of the spectrum. |

I'm not sure Pittsburgh does it. - Oneonta Penguin
Yeah, in my mind Sutter was/is a third line center. I know Edmonton doesn't need one of those.
I see most Pens fans here seem to feel he has what it takes to be a second line center, especially on a team that doesn't have the depth there as the Pens. |

Former 1st round pick who was mishandled by the old regime, he is a physical dman that is coming into his game. He is currently paired with scudz who is an anchor at times.. but I think he is really learning a lot from him. He makes a mistake or two at times but he is solid. He will easily be top 3 dman in the future, but for now I love him in the lineup and he isn't moving from the NHL. If he's here next year like he most likely will be, he will be top 4 |

A year ago, he'd have been gone in a second. The coach hated him. This year he's playing really well with the occasional mistake. Hitting every thing that moves. Good skater with good puck skills. I used to think he was no better than a 5, now I think he can be a 3 or 4.
He's got a fairly rare set of skills. Will probably need another year or two to put it all together. Thank God for the new coach. |

No people here are over valuing Sutter by a long shot. He is so dependent on having descent linemates. Yes he's playing better this year but he played some games with 71 on his wing. Think Ryan pointed out that his possession numbers aren't good not that I really care about advanced stats. Good PK'er not physical good with the puck on his stick but he's not creative. |

I'm in for Taylor Hall... We've all clamored for a young top end wing for the Pens for years, and he would be it.
I'd be fine sending Maatta in the deal, and if it's done in the off-season, Sutter is fine to go too.
It's funny, if we also send a Harrington/Dumoulin, we would have just went from years of a deep pool of defensive prospects, to a very shallow one.
We'd have Pouliot and whomever is left from Harrington/Dumoulin, with nothing else behind them. If we didn't send our 1st round pick away, we'd have to look at drafting a defensemen again in the first round.
If we give up our 1st round pick in the deal, I'd want Edmonton's 2nd round pick back, because it would likely only be a handful of picks after our 1st. - rival22
A) Drew Stafford is available.
B) not going to happen. There will be 29 teams lining up for Hall. Asking fo anything other than him and a cap dump in return will get you to the bottom of the list, IMO

What is your fascination with poopting on sutter? If he's so bad who on our team would fill in for him? Goc? That would be a joke. Sutter is crucial to our team and our depth. |

I would ask you why you blow him? He's a descent player but you treat him like he's is 66. Which part of my assessment was incorrect? |

You mean how he played all of last year with the worst possible linemates and how he had more line combos with him than I can count? Or how about the fact that management is leaning towards the idea of playing sutter top 6 because he is that good offensively?
Also I'm treating him like he's 66? More like I treat him how he actually plays, and what management says. I think management has a better idea of their players over a guy who can't even spell decent correctly

Off the wall trade proposal
Kunitz ... a veteran left wing with cup experience and experience playing with young talented players, is from western canada, so he would be closer to his roots.
Martin .. a ufa veteran d that can mentor edm's young d this year
Two of our def prospects
2015 2nd
2016 2nd
This is assuming nmc's are waived.
Not as insane as some proposals i've seen in here and other threads |

I think the Avs would have to retain at least 1m of RORs cap hit to make it work, that clears things up. They have the ability to retain quiet a bit this year - DDM-Coga
Okay so we have a hockeybuzz deal:
ROR ($1.2M retained) and Talbot for Sutter and Harrington. |

yay! doubt edm would do that.
despres is movable due to depth, though he made me eat some serious crow this year... sutter is goo, but a rental 3rd line center could be gotten at deadline. picks negligible. |

Edmonton is still in a rebuild. Not sure how much they're interested in 2 players (one an upcoming UFA) on the wrong side of 32 as the centerpieces of the deal. |

He is a second line center in Edmonton. God knows he is better than what they have at 2,3,4. Put him with capable wingers and he can produce. |

Really? I don't think ALL of those pieces get you Hall, let alone Hall and a 1st (likely top-5 pick). |

He would be a 2C right now, but likely bumped back down to 3C when Draisaitl emerges. |
