What is your fascination with poopting on sutter? If he's so bad who on our team would fill in for him? Goc? That would be a joke. Sutter is crucial to our team and our depth. - znagle
Don't mind him. He is just following the narrative written by Ryan, who finds the things he wants to in a player and goes with it without looking at the overall picture. Remember, he is one that says Goc at third line center and we wouldn't miss a beat. LOL |

Really? I don't think ALL of those pieces get you Hall, let alone Hall and a 1st (likely top-5 pick). - jmatchett383
I agree. Sutter isn't controlled long enough, Goc is a UFA who is 31, Kap is unproven and Bennett is too + injury, Pouliot is good, and our first is an edmonton 2nd so why would they do any of that? |

No people here are over valuing Sutter by a long shot. He is so dependent on having descent linemates. Yes he's playing better this year but he played some games with 71 on his wing. Think Ryan pointed out that his possession numbers aren't good not that I really care about advanced stats. Good PK'er not physical good with the puck on his stick but he's not creative.
You mean how he played all of last year with the worst possible linemates and how he had more line combos with him than I can count? Or how about the fact that management is leaning towards the idea of playing sutter top 6 because he is that good offensively?
Also I'm treating him like he's 66? More like I treat him how he actually plays, and what management says. I think management has a better idea of their players over a guy who can't even spell decent correctly

I think that part is much more due to lack of other options. Sutter isnt top 6 on this team unless he converts to wing which likely isnt going to happen since they have had Malkin playing wing on that line. On a healthy roster, there is no logic to moving 71 out of his natural position to accommodate Sutter. No way a top 5 player in the league should be displaced for an above average 3rd line center. |

He would be a 2C right now, but likely bumped back down to 3C when Draisaitl emerges. - jmatchett383
if he emerges. Remember, we have a poster on here that thinks Maatta is a 3/4 Dman in Edmonton because he hasn't emerged yet.

He is so good offensively? Why is management considering playing him in a top 6 that is missing duper Kunitz Crosby? Must be because he's so good offensively. I don't think he's a bad player I think you're overrating him. My assessment was spot on imo is he creative or physical? He's good with the puck with speed and good on the pk.

Today's thread...
...or we could keep the depth of this team and tweek the lineup with a guy like Tlusty or Perron. Guys will be coming back and we're the best team in the East and......ah nevermind. That's too logical. |

very logical... but boring! seriously though, if a player of halls talent was available then not looking at a deal would be foolish. the team that gets the best player wins a trade almost all the time... hard to imagine pens losing this deal |

Goc drives the bus, Sutter is the offensive weapon to add to the bus driver, Downie is the son of a B who rides shotgun.
Goc-Sutter-Downie third line
Kunitz-Crosby-Horny
Tlusty-Malkin-Commeau
Klink-Spaling-Rust/Adams
Bennett can fit where needed when he returns, hopefully for the rest of the season.
Tlusty comes cheap, if Blake regresses a bit he moves down to third line left wing, Beau or Downie comes up and you have a balanced top 9 again. One or two pieces fills in a lot.

Edmonton is still in a rebuild. Not sure how much they're interested in 2 players (one an upcoming UFA) on the wrong side of 32 as the centerpieces of the deal. - jmatchett383
Kunitz and martin stabalize the team this year.
Kunitz stays on for rest of his contract as veteran experience, something edm needs more of.
Two top, nhl ready def prospects helps with the future of the team.
And two draft picks, which will be on edm to use well

There is no point to "stabilize the team this year." They're not going anywhere. Martin likely leaves for a better team unless he's overpaid for long-term. Kunitz is likely to see his production decline from here on out due to Father Time. Not thanks.
Edit: I'm assuming this is a Taylor Hall proposal. |

LOL really.. Goc 4 points in 40 games for us. Yeah I'm sure he can handle third line duties over the season. He is a good fourth center, nothing more |

Shutdown 3rd line Center is what he "would" be. And gauging his points while winging Adams and Sill for over half the season? Cheap shot and not a real way to value him. |

Foolish is having six players taking 41.45 million of cap space for the next three seasons until Kunitz comes off the books. That's insane! |

Sutter didn't do anything with those linemates. typically I thought Ryan was crazy with his opinion of goc but hall is one guy id be more then ok going from sutter to goc |

Sutter has played with the same exact players and on more line combinations that I can count. Gocs drop off from sutter would be huge, you can't even deny it. Also sutter can play shutdown as well. Just last game stamkos had 1 shot. Sutter was top line |

Sutter wasn't really racking up the points for most of last season with bad linemates. Goc's main argument is his faceoff and posession stats when NOT having Sill.
I could see him being a shutdown 3rd, but I don't see the points Sutter gets. Regardless, Goc on a number of teams would improve their 3rd line. |

that depends... with several d on elc's, kap and bb on elc or 2nd contracts... and the ability to find cheap depth players, i.e comeau's and downie's, thats not so insane. |
