You know what I'm not giving up on 68 being a pen 3-2-15 |
|
|
|
So, back onto stuff not hypothetical....
Who DOESNT have the mumps on the Penguins right now? |
|
|
|
Also... who else saw that James Neal was the first to be shamed under the new diving rules and penalties? |

I can't believe I'm responding to this but serious question...
I think chances are very slim that Dupuis can make a comeback mid-playoffs, but IF that is a possibility, do you guys think JR should prepare for that? Do we need to leave cap space open for his potential return? I don't know how the cap/coming back from LTIR/playoffs work.. |

6 Months average rehab, he should be back nearly a month BEFORE playoffs.
And due to his time out, the cap hit won't become the full amount when he returns, it will adjust for his time on injurred reserve.
really simple Google searching gives an answer.

Figure roughly 65-75% of his salary over the cap limit we can spend before he returns. |

Any word if any other Pens have the mumps? |

I have to Google answers at work all day long, so I appreciate you doing the legwork
Sorry, I got my timeline off with the 6 month thing as well. Anyway, I guess that explains it. So no big worry here, basically just dont max out on the relief provided by LTIR and we can still bring him back. He'd be a heck of a bottom 6 addition around deadline time assuming we've already shored up our top 6 winger situation by then... |

Maatta, Bortz, and Fleury had symtpoms. Not confirmed though.
One intern was confirmed. |

My word was a very rough estimate, with lazy math before reading. Still closer than your blind guess, however, reading that gives exact figures.
edit: grabbing poop from the link.
"The upper limit is $70.0M. A team has a cap payroll or Averaged Club Salary of $69.0M on the day a player with a $4.0M cap hit is placed on LTIR. The team is now eligible to spend up to a new upper limit of $73.0M ($69.0M + $4.0M)."
So... Penguins were dry humping the cap limit of 69 at Salary Cap Payroll 68,733,334.
So, take the difference of that from 69 mil, then ADD Dupuis' salary. That is our new limit. |

But dont cap limits soften for the playoffs? If not..
we fill that space now with trade X, and Dupuis comes back, we lose the cap relief when he comes off LTIR and might not have room under the cap for Dupuis to return...

Cap doesn't matter in the playoffs
They will just keep Dupuis on IR until they can afford to bring him back (5, 3, 1 games before the season ends to get him in game shape) Take him off IR and he's good to go for the entire playoffs |

That brings up the REAL question... where do you put Dupuis when he returns? I think it goes without saying, HCMJ liked Dupuis in the top 2 lines. But the plan is to have someone brought in to take Crosby's wing, and "techincally" Comeau's spot. |

If he's coming back during the playoffs, it might not be the best idea putting a guy who doesn't have his game legs right on the top line. |

He'll have to play on the 4th line
We'll have Jagr, Hall, Kunitz, Hornqvist, Bennett and Tlusty at the top 6 Wingers..... won't we??

Giving up what it would take to get a name like hall would leave the pens worse off than they are now. I say leave sutter and malkin together and search for a 3 c and a mid level top six winger for sid. |

If I'm the oilers I trade all the support guys pack it in for the season and get my center with the 1 or 2 pick in the draft. Sure fans are going to be pissed but what's 1 more year |

There is no cap, and I believe the active roster grows as well (Black Aces). |
