I say we wait a bit and try to get healthier and keep d prospects til last minute or til next season. If we trade anything it should be older guys like Martin, Scuderi,Erhoff, ect. I really think we will be solid on defense if we hold on our defensive prospects and play them. We shoulda traded/bought out either or both,Martin and Scuderi at last seasons end last year and resigned 44,Vitale and Glass. It'd open up some room for these younger guys. I think injuries have killed us for last 4 years. trade value on guys now is absurd and to move top def prospects to get more old rental guy isn't the answer. Maybe picks id do but not 2-3 year developed players

Id like to see: (next season) this year I'd hold unless the perfect guy is there and it doesn't take the farm.

Sutter Maatta 1st and Martin for Hall and ??

My rationale: Sutter is one of my favs on Pitts but if he has to be in the deal fine(more one that) Maatta is young and has one good season that he played great for most but struggled too and looks like he may become injury prone. The 1st will be 25-30 pick, not bad but not going to be an immediate impact player on team ready to win now for 5-7 more years. Martin is a cap space thing and Edmonton could use his leadership. Although, he does have good value and could bring back some thing with Hall.
Hall is on a team that at this point doesn't even come close to pittsburgh and playing with either 87 or 71 would really show what he's capable of. I think post trade we would be very happy.

more on Sutter, after this year he has on year left on his deal. he is going to ask upwards of what 4-5 mill per. I don't think that he's worth that IMO but with guys getting crazy money he could fetch more. I think you make another deal to back this up and I have a few guys in mind that would be great Antoine Vermette. This guy is good on face offs and is having a decent year points wise on Arizona. He is overpaid and will need a resign at years end but would be a great 3rd line center for 3-4 more years. Careerwise he has consistently been better than Sutter.

Bryan Little take a little cap saucy to work salary in but signed for 3-4 more years
Paul Guastad big physical guy who could win face-offs nashvilles loaded w centers

this doesn't take in account that Edmonton may need to add.
