No. Murray doesnt think that highly of Myers. He would do that deal im confident. Im also confident that Myers straight up is not enough to get Hall. - MCGUIZZY
I agree. You know they want our first though. As in our actual first not the Iles or the other. That's what they are going to hold over our heads.
I would like to think Myers + a 2nd would get it done. Or Myers + Roch D prospect + a 2nd OR Myers and a late first. |

We have a bunch of Darcy Regier's on this thread with their emotional attachment to Myers. He is a top 4 defenseman but if Edmonton is willing to trade you a 23 year old winger who can get you 80 points a year you trade myers for him all day long. We have guys in the pipe line, others yet to be drafted plus free agency to add top 4 defense man when the heck do you see a player of Hall's caliber as a UFA ? |
|
|
|
Because if they are interested in adding a true top line player, here is there chance. They won't finish last to guarantee McEichel.
You said who else could offer a package that could include a potential top 5 pick. Arizona is one of them - sbroads24
I never said anything about other teams. I made a counter-point to what you said about Detroit fans, and you brought up Arizona and other teams having what we have to give up for Hall.
GM's arent out there to find that 1 star player. They are there to build a team. Arizona would be completely pushing back any success their team could have over having a "true top line player"? GM's dont work like that. |

You are underselling him , while calling Hall an 80 point player....which he did once |

Theres no emotional attachment to Myers. Theres just an educated understanding that a core of 4 defenseman that can give you 20+ quality a minutes a night is a lot better than 3, or 2, or 1. Myers is already giving you what you want out of guys in the pipeline yet to hit the NHL or guys that havent been drafted. And how often defenseman that are top 20 in TOI, QOC and GA/60 hit FA?
Ask Dallas how fun it is to have the leading scorer in the league but no depth behind that top line or on defense. |

Hall has zero 30 goal seasons.
Nash had a 30 and a 40 goal season by the same age.
He was traded for a 2nd line player, 3rd line player, fringe NHL former 1st rd bust, and the pick that became Kerby Rychel.
IMO any deal is going to be somewhere in between that and what Columbus got for Carter. |

Not really he's been mediocre since his Calder year. We have seen Myers' peak. If anything he'll look better on a better roster because he'll be a complimentary player but Hall is a 1st line winger who has won every where he's been with the exception of the Oilers. Myers can be replaced, Hall comes around once every so often. |

Nash also requested a trade out of Columbus and the whole league knew that. He also had a huge contract so affects bargaining power. |

Different situations though.
Hall is making what Patrick Sharp makes but is 23 as opposed to being 28 like Nash was and making almost 8 mil.

Defense has been a real issue in Dallas. 3 guys above or close to ppg play but a goalie close to giving up 3 goals per game and a sv% as a team that's in the toilet. |

That was Nash's 3rd contact. That he received at age 26 right after putting up 30+ goals and 60+ points for 3 straight seasons as the teams best player... |

I was told it starts with Myers, that's what they want a number 1 D man not picks and prospects, can that change? sure it can but that is what the Oilers want. I can understand if you don't believe me, no problem. |

What we don't know is if Hall has asked out.
I have a sneaky suspicion it might be the case as there is zero reason for Edmonton to look at moving him otherwise.
IMO Edmonton will get a group of depth guys and a 1st or a solid #2 dman and picks for him.
Think of what Dallas gave up for Seguin. It won't be what the fans of Edmonton are thinking they'll get. |

I wouldn't want picks and prospects ethier if I were the Oilers they have tanked for long enough and Myers addresses a position of need for them. |

I'm with you and agree 1,000%.
The Tyler Myers jock sniffing fan club all wear rose colored glasses when it comes to being real about him.
I just laugh at the love affair some truly have for him. |

Right, but you were only interested in Nash if you were ready to compete and had money to spend.
Hall isn't just a guy you get if you want to improve today, you get him because you will also be better 4,5,6 years from now. It broadens the interest around the league |

If Murray didn't like Myers, he would have been gone last draft day.
Vancouver offered their 1st and a prospect rumored to be Shinkaruk |

Or he has not seen a deal that he likes yet. Just because he has not been traded yet doesnt mean Murray likes him. Trade deadline is historically the best time to trade someone Not on draft day |
