I don't know that I'd call it dumb, but that would be arguing semantics, and doesn't really matter. I think the poster that was chastised was offering a reasonable opinion. - MJL
Unwarranted. Ill-advised. Bad. Laughton had a great chance last night against the Bolts. Let the kid continue developing.
Yeah, not sure how it blew up the way it did. People butt heads. |

Hmm? I just mean that sounds incredibly painful. And an odd bone to break.
But yes, he's now off my list. |

Whoever gets traded loses their draft status? - 77rams
A first round pick is a first round pick. A player is a player. Are you seriously telling me that a player, years after being drafted, regardless of how good or bad the player is, keeps the value of a first round pick when used as an asset in a trade?
If so, that's good to know, because the Flyers should trade Luke Schenn, and we could get a boatload for him, because he's a 5th overall pick.

Laughton led all Flyers forward in PK icetime and played 17 minutes+ in the game. I'm not expecting him to be scratched, and I wouldn't choose to scratch him.

I didn't say he sucks, I'm asking you, in your opinion, what kind of player Yandle is.

ok im gonna give this shot just because despite the reaction others have with you from time to time i actually like what you have to saybut i know we're going to most likely disagree... so here goes
yandle is a puck moving defenseman who is capable of giving a team like the flyers quick outlet passing and top pp duties and eating a lot of minutes, they desperately need. when given good goaltending he also looks better in his own end |

What the hell are you talking about?
Simple - was Joffrey a first round pick? You replied "no". Please explain. |

I'd agree with that for the most part. I'll offer you an explanation as to why I would not pay that price for Yandle. Yandle in my view is a younger, better, more dynamic player similar to Mark Streit. What he is not is an all situations defenseman. Yandle is not a player you'd play in key defensive situations, or against top lines. He is a player that needs to be hidden and used properly to offset his limitations, and to take advantage of his strengths. I'm not willing to pay that high of a price for a player like that. If I'm going to pay that price, I want a true top pairing all situations player. And if I can't get that kind of player, then I'd rather remain patient, and keep the young players.

What the hell are you talking about? The Flyers did not trade 4 first round draft picks for Pronger. Just because Lupul was a player chosen with a first round pick, doesn't mean that the Flyers traded 4 first round draft picks.
He was drafted in the first round, but when he was used as an asset in the Pronger trade, he was an established player, and not a draft pick. The asset traded there was a player. |

No, he can't be Joe. He's played on teams that had good goaltending. That's not going to make him into that kind of player. He is an offensive D man/PP specialist. |

And I believe the flip side that many were pointing out is that it would be a dumb move.
Not the end of the world. And dumb. They can coexist. - wolfhounds
Exactly. Dumb. Laughton has been one of the team's most effective forwards over the last 10 games or so. Benching him for a guy who was benched for basically showing the effort of a potato is stupid.
End of the world? Nope. By I guess those that yell hyperbole miss the irony when they're guilty of it. |

They are finally on the path of drafting & developing our own picks so we can as often as possible avoid having to make the type of trades to land a Yandle type player.

Off the top of my head, the Phoenix Coyotes were a well oiled machine under Dave Tibbetts' defensive system and with Ilya Bryzgalov in net. At the same time, I'm sure Keith Yandle was very much hidden in defensive situations. Maybe not all but most. |
