Not sure adding Harrison makes it much better. He's basically an AHL call up with a higher cap hit |

Agreed. But Read's playing third line, shut down minutes. He's not playing 18 minutes a night on a scoring line. Read does have enough skill to score 20+ goals a year, despite being used in a primarily defense first role is something I think you are overlooking.
In terms of things that need upgrading, Matt Read is at the bottom of the list for me. He's been a very good defensive player, an elite level PK guy and a consistently productive player for three straight seasons.
FWIW, since they both joined the Flyers, Read has outscored Wayne Simmonds at even strength - Jsaquella
I just simply dont like the makeup of this team. It is slow and boring. Just dump and chase. Read is one of them. |

I would love to keep Read if he is a solely a 3rd line winger. The problem is the Flyers rely on him too much for offense. IMO. Flyers need to obviously upgrade the wings a little so Read can play where his skills best suit him and the team. - GOA88
They don't really rely on him for offense at all. In fact, him and Couts have been used primarily as defensive players all year. |

Yes, and cheap. At least Umberger would have someone he could relate to. |

They're just stocking up, with 4 regulars down with injury.
A 6th rounder only gets you so much.

I don't know if anyone caught the interview with Dave Isaac today after practice.
I thought that his thoughts on Lecavalier and the team in general were nothing more then both fair and logical. He brought up the human element within the game is normally lost on people and frankly I think it's lost on everyone on this board except maybe two or three people. Lecavalier isn't a fit, that's fair to say. It's even fair to say that he probably wasn't giving his very best before being scratched but accusing him of having a bad attitude or even a bad teammate is unfair. Most of the blog writers and any type of media who are actually in the room have said that's he's a pro. He's clearly unhappy but basically swallowing his pride the best anyone can, which is pretty much all we can ask for. As a Flyers fan, I've seen a lot worse over the years. In fact the Dave Isaac goes as far as saying that Matt Read credits Lecavalier for helping him get out of his slump. So bad teammate, we don't know this for sure.
With this said, I don't think we'll see much of anything different from Vincent Lecavalier tonight in terms of production. He might get lucky but I'm not counting on it with him playing on the fourth line. Yes, I'm sure a lot of you will say that as long as he moves his legs and shows effort, you'll be happy. That to me is bull. RJ Umberger has shown effort but what it boils down to, RJ Umberger isn't a very talented player anymore. He won't regain our respect until his play translates into collecting points. This pretty much goes double for Vinny. |

How about Vinny plus Flyers eat $1.5mil per year fro Viktor Stalberg. Nashville just put Stalberg on waivers. His cap hit is $3mil per thru 2016-2017. Vinny's cap hit is $4.5mil per thru 2017-2018.
Kinda cast away for cast away. Works for the Flyers in that Stalberg is fast and is a winger. He fits the puzzle better than Vinny. |

Depends on the team. Like I said, he's top six on Anaheim and Pittsburgh. Anaheim's top 6 includes Getzlaf, Kesler, Belesky, Perry, Silfverberg and Maroon. Penguins have Crosby, Malkin, Kunitz, Hornqvist, Dupuis (before injury) and Comeau. Read's better than Comeau, Maroon and Belesky, IMO. Silfverberg too although maybe not skill wise. - NickTheKid87
how can you say read is better than belesky? those players play a physical game that read doesn't play |

Belesky's on pace to score a career high 42 points, which would beat his previous career high of 24.
And Read kills penalties, which Belesky doesn't do. |

Read significantly out-produces Belesky in their careers and Read is better defensively (averages almost two minutes of PK time per game more than Belesky this year btw)
EDIT: What Feanor said above. |

If you can get Vinny to waive that NMC, you get him traded and on a plane for any contract that is similar that doesn't have a movement clause

I think you basically say to Vinny "take the trade or your benched for the season". Maybe say it a little nicer than that but something along those lines. Flyers might need to pay $2mil per year to make the dollars match but it seems doable and not completely terrible for the Flyers. |

Lot of short memories around here.
While Read, at 28, is far from untouchable, he is still a valuable player and nowhere near the biggest problem on this team |

What's that got to do with the price of eggs? Belesky age doesn't add to his skill level. |
