I think you basically say to Vinny "take the trade or your benched for the season". Maybe say it a little nicer than that but something along those lines. Flyers might need to pay $2mil per year to make the dollars match but it seems doable and not completely terrible for the Flyers. - mickel25
If this is the case, why not buy him out? |

Exactly -- be professional, but explain that this is the deal
I don't know what's going to happen tonight, because I don't have a crystal ball. But I'm glad that Berube's playing him on the fourth line, considering I wouldn't be playing him at all
No way someone who has performed the way he has should be inserted higher or given better wingers -- again, you cannot preach accountability sometimes, with some players. You've already scratched him. You have no reason to not make him earn more minutes and more time

Lot of short memories around here.
While Read, at 28, is far from untouchable, he is still a valuable player and nowhere near the biggest problem on this team - BiggE
Not the biggest problem, certainly. I was wondering what the deal was because he looked brutal -- brutal enough where if he was injured, then maybe he should've sat because he wasn't doing anything at all on the ice -- but if he was hurt and has been better physically since the game where he started to score, then he's not an issue

From some sources the criticism has been blindly biased and completely unobjective. And your post above proves that. If a player you have a personal problem with gets scratched, you approve - MJL
Nope, it's just players that are playing poorly.
I like Luke Schenn, you didn't see me trashing Chief when he got benched. He just deserved it.
There is a clear lack of objectivity from some sources when it comes to Berube
Here's a mirror, enjoy. |

We don't know if Nashville wants him, so this idea of "Take the deal or be benched" doesn't exist. It's either do what we're doing already or nothing. |

Ok, so Read is better than Staal, Oshie, Williams, Hartnell? and comparable to Ryan, Doan, Spezza, Duchene and Voracek. Let me go get my head checked...... - GOA88

They're just stocking up, with 4 regulars down with injury.
A 6th rounder only gets you so much. - tangent_man
It's an interesting trade because they're flirting with playoff position in a pretty tough conference -- their GM is clearly conservative, but I still wonder if they might be the team that calls on Coburn if they're in it at the TDL and the Flyers are not

If I really have this much of an effect on your day, that's really sad. How dare I go against those who hate a player as much as I do. It's actually funny. I'm trying to be a positive as any towards the players on this team but because I don't jump on the bandwagon to hate one, I'm the villain.
You're right though, I'm a huge idiot and a douchebag. |

I can see the skill Couts has but I dont see the skill Read apparently has. He is a very basic player. His best attribute is being defensively responsible. I have seen too many times on here that people consider him a top 6 winger. He is not that kind of talent. If he is what is considered top 6 in Philly I believe that is part of the problem with this team. Lack of skill - GOA88
Here is a fact. It takes skill to score goals in the NHL. A player lacking skill doesn't score 20 goals playing in the NHL. Read has played 3 NHL seasons, and he has scored 20 goals or more twice in a season, and the 3rd season was the lockout shortened season, in which he scored goals at a 21 goal pace for a season. the skill isn't apparent, it's real.

What's that got to do with the price of eggs? Belesky age doesn't add to his skill level. - NickTheKid87

Their internal budget must be shrinking with the loonie diving... wonder if they could get approval to add much salary at all. |

How about Vinny plus Flyers eat $1.5mil per year fro Viktor Stalberg. Nashville just put Stalberg on waivers. His cap hit is $3mil per thru 2016-2017. Vinny's cap hit is $4.5mil per thru 2017-2018.
Kinda cast away for cast away. Works for the Flyers in that Stalberg is fast and is a winger. He fits the puzzle better than Vinny. - mickel25
Why trade for a player when you can just claim him on waivers?

Yeah, their internal cap could prove troubling. But at the same time, you haven't made the playoffs since you returned to Winnipeg, and you're in the 8th spot now at the 40 percent mark of the season -- don't you have to eat a little cash at the TDL for someone, if you're still there?
