Man. The math is just rough right now.

Everybody can read the standings. But even with them playing better and accumulating points, they've lost ground from 10 days ago AND have been passed by the Blue Jackets.

I'm not being negative. They can still turn it around and make the playoffs.

But realistically, they are going to have to go on an absolute tear at some point AND some teams in front of them are going to have to play worse for an extend period AND those teams in front of them will have to lose in regulation when they are not playing well.

It's starting to get a little dire here, and I don't know that tonight isn't too soon to start using the term "crucial," and it's within the realm of must-win.

Didn't say anything yesterday. Previously said -- I'm paraphrasing, not directly quoting -- that MDZ fell back into old bad habits in the first game against the Rangers and it got worse following a short injury-related absence from an injury in the first NYR game. Said that MDZ has to be a defenseman first and foremost and not a rover. If he wants to be the latter, he won't play.

I don't know yet what the lineup will be, since yesterday's practice was an optional with only eight on the ice. Will become clearer at the morning skate and the lineups will be adjusted if need be.
