t's not as easy as that. The cap will gradually go up and if you can free up money other places it wouldn't be hard to get Voracek signed. But i don't think he is getting 7.5. Yes he is having a career year so far but I would might lean closer to 6 - 6.75 range. - J35Bacher
Ryan got 7 years at $7.25m. Voracek is worth at least that much, and I expect the Flyers to lock him up in July. |

You call his agent on July 1st and find out what Jake's looking for. The negotiations start right there.
Couturier, Raffl, both Schenns, Coburn, and Grossmann are all re-signable at the same time (depending on which of them are still around/wanted).
I love the guy, but if he's looking to break the bank - and won't budge - a trade has to be considered. Then it's just finding the best return. - tangent_man
I agree. I think the Flyers have always been afraid of losing talent to FA. You can't be afraid of be unwilling to budge on certain deals. In a cap world, you need to be frugal |

A 1st for Coburn, a 3rd for Schultz and a 4th for Grossmann or LSchenn. - Feanor
I don't think Schultz nets them a 3rd. He's been solid but he's older and would be a rental. I think 5th or 6th for him. Coburn maybe gets a late 1st depending on suitors, IMO, but it's more likely he'll get them a 2nd max. |

But what if he regresses to being a 60 point player? Who will want a 60 point player for 8.5M?
I love Jake too - PhillySportsGuy

The Flyers will argue that Ryan had more success beforehand, which is true, but if Voracek puts up 80+ points, with the cap rising (hopefully), i expect Ryan's deal will be a starting point. |

You think the Flyers are going to finish that high? - MBFlyerfan
Honestly I see them picking somewhere in the 5th-10th spot.
Mase will steal some games and the #1 PP is good.
If G Jake or Mase miss any significant time they will finish in the bottom 3. |

Wouldn't assume the cap's going up. Canadian dollar, blah blah blah. Also, players electing not to take the 5% cap escalator would completely wipe out Bettman's projected increase in one fell swoop -- escrow, blah blah blah. |

Like you said, if he's coming off a 90+ point season, the price is gonna be high, so you don't sign him early. Have the idea of what he's looking for in your head and see how next season develops. If he goes on another scoring spree, his number will stay high. Should he slip a bit, you have a little haggling space.

isn't it funny this team plays better without coburn in the line up? - 2Real

If they could somehow trade Giroux and Voracek for the top 2 picks in the draft, I think I'd do it. Not that this is a realistic scenario at all but... - NickTheKid87
It's not realistic. Those teams won't be trading for an expiring contract. A Voracek trade would involve multiple pieces coming back.
I would look for a western conference team or a low budget team. I'd want another shot at him in FA. If he were to resign before FA I'd want it with a western conference team |

You know this place has gone a bit nutty when the topic of the day is somehow trading our best player this season, and second best player overall.

The team has been bad all season long, with and without Coburn in the lineup. |

It's probably gonna be supply-dependent... Schultz also has to keep playing like a 'top-4' dman too, to get that top-90 pick. Definitely not out of the realm of possibility. |

That's risky too. I might look to move him before the season if they can't come to an agreement. |

What if the Flyers won the lottery? Would you move him then?
Personally, if the Flyers could get Seth Jones ++ I would trade him regardless. I don't think this team is going to be good for a couple seasons and the reasons people are giving to trade Voracek are even truer for Giroux.
Imagine a righty lefty top pair of Jones morin with Sanheim leading the 2nd pair. |
