He's one of the few key guys without a contract clause, so he'd be a prime target at next year's trade deadline if it came down to it. Might just get a better return at that point, too.
Of course, if Hexy can sell him on his long-term plan, we might be surprised at what he'd be willing to sign for. You never know. - tangent_man
Ideally, I'd like to keep him. I Just don't think he should be kept AT ANY COST!!! |

I think this rebuild lasts as long as it takes 3 or 4 of the D prospects to develop - nails
For the most part, I do too, but getting a player of McDavid's caliber would open up a lot of doors for the Flyers to rework the roster. |

Yeah. I pray to God Hexy had no say in the Amac deal - PhillySportsGuy
I'm guessing that was Homer's deal all the way. Let's face it. If the Flyers win game 7 last spring, Homer might still be calling the shots today. I'm sure he talked to his staff, but it was his call. |

Their defense is a mess much like the Flyers. Them and Dallas are a great example that in the modern NHL defensemen are way more important than forward talent. - psuhockey
Even more depressing is that they actually have good NHL players on D -- EJ, Barrie -- to build around. We have... the shadow of Coburn's nose. |

Even worse with Coby.... Numbers dont lie. - GOA88
The Flyers were 5-7-3 last season when Rinaldo was hurt but went 37-23-7 when he played , so by your logic that means Rinaldo is vital to our success. |

Meszaros was under 30 and had upside still. Schultz is playing above his level of the past few seasons. Like I said, I think it's possible he could net them a third but there will be cheaper options out there and some teams may rather have Schenn or Grossmann for a 4th or 5th then Schultz for a 3rd. - NickTheKid87
I just think teams are so desperate for D. Mez was awful last year and was a pending FA making a lot. Schultz has played well, is a veteran and a pending FA making very little. |

it would.
The forwards would be pretty solid then and scoring should balance better.
Unfortunately, that might take 3 years.
Would you trade a lottery pick this year for a number 1 d man?
A true #1? |

Probably. We can get into how misleading that 7 game series was at another time.
I just don't want this team to be afraid to walk away from a deal even if they love the player |

On a positive note, AMac actually looked dangerous in OT last night. When's the last time that happened? - Tomahawk
It's almost like playing him with Streit is a good idea. |

No, because Rinaldo has a very limited role and little impact on the result of a game. Usually its a negative impact.
Stop blindly defending Coburn based on his name. He has played like poop and his time in Philly should come to an end along with many others. This team as a whole lacks heart, physicality, work ethic and continually make game changing mistakes. |

Define "true #1". Are we talking Doughty, Weber, Pietrangelo? Because I would trade any 1st round pick except 1st overall (i.e. McDavid) for them. |

Yeah but they have pretty much the same team as last year that played like gang busters. Varlamov being hurt hasn't helped. I still expect them to eventually play better. |

I'm not blindly defending anyone and have no problem trading Coburn for a 1st. I'm just laughing at the idea that taking him off the team makes it better. |

Any D man in the league.
Pre lottery balls, so you don't get to know what the pick is. |
